In France, a 47-year-old priest was sentenced by the criminal court of the Cher department to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended, for sexual acts on a minor, committed when he had responsibility for her guidance and authority over her.
The conviction relates to aggravated sexual assault by a person in a position of trust, while the other initial charges (such as rape) were dismissed by the judge. The victim had requested that the trial be held behind closed doors.
In addition to the suspended sentence, the priest was banned from any activity involving minors and was entered in the judicial register of sex offenders and violent criminals.
