A LOST FRIEND A LOST FRIENDA LOST FRIEND

Do you know how it feels to lose a friend,
To sit at their funeral hoping, to heaven they'll ascend?
They say death is something noone can prevent,
But the loss of a soul in its youth, is a loss none can comprehend.

They preached that, "Sadly, it was your time",
But that is an excuse I strongly wish to decline,
Your presence is what made my life sublime,
Taking you away from me so early should be a crime.

Without you life can never be the same,
What makes it worse is that there's noone to blame,
Perpetually keeping you in my memory is now my true aim,
Continuing to fight life's adversities while honoring your name.

Although I'm just human frail and weak,
I hope my words to others will speak,
The sorrow from my ink continues to leak,
Keeping you alive through my poetry is what I seek.

DEAR TOXIC EX-LOVER

We started off as a picturesque couple,
Perfectly content in our own protected bubble,
We thought we fit together like a puzzle,
Nights would feel incomplete without a kiss and cuddle.

My days were spent showing you the way,
My heart ached seeing you waste away all day,
Hoping you'd find success every night I'd pray,
Constantly pulling you back each time you'd go astray.

I didn't even notice how toxic it had become,
How my mood would fall each time you became numb,
How you'd perpetually stick to me like gum,
How your dependence on me had slowly begun.

I didn't even see how you were pulling me down,
How my face now had a continuous frown,
How your clinginess was making me drown,
How I'd lost my beloved freedom's crown.

Reality soon struck me with a sour taste,
That I lost abit of myself each time we embraced,
That every prayer I'd uttered was a total waste,
These facts pummeled at me leaving me displaced.

You were like a leech sucking me dry,
I tried to tend to your every cry,
To all your requests I'd gladly comply,
Blind to how I was letting my own ambitions die.

Now that you're gone I can finally breathe,
I understand why our time was meant to be brief,
What we had was love I truly believe,
But that love was never enough for the happiness I want to achieve.

You treated me like a cigarette watching me burn,
Rising back up like a phoenix was something you couldn't discern,
Some nights when I'm high thoughts of you would fill me with concern,
But one thing I know for sure is that to you I'd never return.

DEAR PAST SELF

You were once so naive to believe in true love,
To think that one had their mate chosen by heaven above,
But after having fallen for another and tossed away like a glove,
You vowed never to show affection to anyone else thereof.

In the past you used to trust people with ease,
Assuming that none would intentionally displease,
But after being let down and used to great degrees,
You've finally realized that most of humanity is a disease.

You previously thought you wanted the perfect life,
One filled with happiness and without any strife,
But now you feel comfort in the presence of your knife,
Carving yourself into bliss just to feel alive.

Earlier you used to desire numerous friends,
People on whom you could fully depend,
But now you've seen how everyone plays pretend,
You've built walls around yourself in order to defend.

Before you used to laugh and play in the dirt,
Physical injuries being the only things that could hurt,
But now your demons perpetually disconcert,
Away from all the insecurities your mind you try to divert.

Dear past self you used to smile without any hesitation,
Filled with so much hope and inspiration,
Then you had a taste of real life's sensation,
It left you preferring isolation over conversation.

BLOOD CANCER

Dreading each day thinking it'll be your last,
On a once happy life a dark shadow is cast,
The list of things left to do seems so vast,
But your time in this world is ending too fast.

How can one live knowing death is so near,
How can one fight if they're only filled with fear,
How can one stand knowing the outcome so clear,
That tomorrow they might lose all they hold dear.

A disease that kills you from inside out,
It nibs at your will to live filling you with doubt,
Shattering your spirit with body aches throughout,
Only a deadly silence echoes each time you shout.

It poisons your body before it can be diagnosed,
It spreads rapidly making it impossible to dispose,
Your organs eventually start to decompose,
Leaving you in the final state of an eternal comatose.

You are not the only one who will ache,
Your loved ones don't cry in front of you for your sake,
But once they leave your room their facade begins to break,
Seeing you wither thinking it's somehow their mistake.

Who to blame, is it coincidence or cruel fate?
In your God, should you now trust or hate?
In your mind this is a continuous debate,
Seemingly useless as you near your due-date.

An inner conflict starts to rise,
Is the hope of being cured nothing but lies?
For the sunrise you long and each sunset you despise,
Slowly trying to accept the fact of your nearing demise.

ART & LIFE

Someone once said to me,
That art isn't what you see,
But what you imagine it to be,
How you precieve it is key.

Art is in the rhythm of a song,
The lyrics to which you sing along,
In the beats mellow or strong,
Making you feel as if you belong.

Art is in a painter's each stroke,
Every shade has an aim to provoke,
Every color leaving us woke,
To a message behind the paint's cloak.

Art is in the pages of a book,
Any genre that has you hooked,
Hidden contexts in every nook,
You just have to know where to look.

Art is in a poet's ink,
Each couplet forming a link,
With your life it begins to sync,
So engrossed that you forget to blink.

Art in many other mediums is found,
Each of which have become renowned,
Its meaning today can not be bound,
Life without art is a life drowned.
