Top Food & Drink Apps Worldwide for April 2019 by Downloads

The most downloaded Food & Drink category app worldwide for April 2019 was #UberEats with close to 8 million installs, which represented a more than 2x YoY (year-over-year) increase from April 2018. The countries with the most Uber Eats app installs during this period were India🇮🇳 at 24% of its total downloads and the United States🇺🇸 at 21%.

#Zomato was the second most installed #Food & Drink category app worldwide last year with more than 6 million estimated first-time downloads, which represented a more than 3x increase from April 2018. The majority of Zomato’s installs were from India at 94%. McDonald’s was the next most installed Food & Drink category app, followed by Swiggy and Rappi.

#Apple kicked off its annual Wordwide Developers Conference #WWDC yesterday. Under the motto “Write code. Blow minds” thousands of developers come together in San Jose, CA, to learn about the latest features on Apple’s platforms in hundreds of workshops, keynotes and networking events.

Here you can see how popularity of Apple's WWDC is declining, although still a lot more popular than #Google's similar event called Google I/O

📲 Top Non-Game Apps Worldwide for May 2019 by Downloads

The most downloaded non-game app worldwide for May 2019 was #WhatsApp with more than 64.7 million installs.

#FacebookMessenger was the second most installed non-game app worldwide last month with more than 60.7 million downloads. #Facebook, #TikTok, and #Snapchat made up the rest of the top five most installed non-game apps last month.

Snapchat’s dramatic ranking increase in May came as the result of a popular new gender swap filter added mid-month. The app’s first-time installs increased 2.5x month-over-month from 16.8 million in April to 41.5 million last month, bringing it into the top 10 for overall downloads at No. 5 and making it the most downloaded app on the App Store. It had ranked No. 11 overall and No. 13 on the App Store in April.

Generating more direct traffic to websites and apps is an important priority for publishers, with #email #newsletters a particularly favoured tactic for retaining subscribers but also for attracting new users. The Washington Post operates around 70 different newsletters & has found that recipients consume around three times as much content as those who don’t use email news. RI’s own data this year show that 42% of US digital subscribers have used one or more email newsletters in the last week compared with 35% in the UK but just 17% in Norway and 19% in Sweden. It is clear this is one area where Nordic publishers could learn a few tricks from the United States.

​​💰 Libra: Facebook confirms its cryptocurrency launching in 2020

#Libra is designed not to be a speculative asset, like #Bitcoin, but a form of digital money backed by a reserve of assets.

The company has formed the nonprofit Libra Association with 27 other partners to oversee Libra and its development. The partnership includes venture capital firms, nonprofit organizations, #cryptocurrency firms, and massive corporate financial, telecommunications, and technology service providers, including #Coinbase, #Mastercard, #Visa, #eBay, #PayPal, #Stripe, #Spotify, #Uber, #Lyft, and #Vodafone.

While the Libra Association will have members based globally, it will be headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland🇨🇭

Facebook has a business incentive to build on top of the Libra #blockchain, and it’s launching its own subsidiary to do just that called #Calibra (see the GIF below - Credit: Facebook). According to Kevin Weil, Facebook's VP of Product, Calibra will live inside of Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp at launch, but will also have a standalone iOS and Android app.

May 2019

The most downloaded social networking app worldwide for May 2019 was #Facebook with more than 60.6 million installs. The markets with the most new Facebook installs during this period were India at 24% of total downloads, followed by Indonesia🇮🇩 at 12% and Brazil🇧🇷 at 8%.

#TikTok was the second most installed social networking app worldwide last month with close to 56 million installs, with the largest portion of those coming from India🇮🇳 at 57%, followed by China🇨🇳 at 8%. #Snapchat, #Instagram and, #Likee rounded out the top five most installed social networking apps worldwide for the month.
