๐ Facebook Employees are NOT as Happy with Mark Zuckerberg as They Used to Be
#Facebook employees have long been known for their fierce loyalty to the company and its founder Mark Zuckerberg. In the aftermath of numerous privacy debacles, including ones in which Facebook has exposed usersโ personal information and facilitated attempts to undermine American democracy, that enthusiasm seems to have flagged.
The Facebook CEO saw his ranking among top US CEOs plummet this year, from No. 16 in 2018 to No. 55 this year, though he does have an approval rating of 94 percent, according to new data from Glassdoor, a site where employees can anonymously rate their jobs and their CEOs. His approval rating was 96 percent last year.

๐ฑ For App Makers: Apple's App Store vs Google Play
Despite the fact that the installed base of #Android devices is significantly larger than it is for #iOS devices, app publishers still seem to find larger earnings potential on #Appleโs #AppStore compared to #GooglePlay.
According to Sensor Towerโs estimates, the top 100 iOS app publishers made $84 million on average in Q1 2019, compared to $51 million for the most successful Android app makers. The difference between the two platforms is even more pronounced when excluding games publishers. The highest-grossing non-gaming app publishers for iOS outperformed the top 100 on Googleโs Play Store by 232 percent.

๐ฑ Smartphone Dominance
Following up on the poll above, although not producing the same results, here are some interesting stats from Pew Research Centre: #Smartphone users are now more likely to go online using their mobile phone than with some other type of device.
For smartphone owners, their mobile devices now outpace more traditional means of accessing the web. 46% of them say when using the internet, they mostly do so on their phone. This represents a 12% increase from 2013 when 34% of these users said this.
At the same time, the share of smartphone users who say a desktop, laptop or tablet computer is their primary device for going online has fallen from 53% in 2013 to 30% today. Roughly a quarter of smartphone users say they equally use a cellphone or a desktop, laptop or tablet computer when going online, up from 12% six years prior.

โก๏ธ Bitcoin Uses More Electricity Than Switzerland
Among other things, #Bitcoin has been criticized for price volatility, use in illegal transactions and thefts from exchanges. It has also proven highly controversial for the sheer amount of energy it requires. The University of Cambridge has released a new online tool that estimates the level of electricity the #CryptoCurrency network uses and compares it with other entities.
It estimates that Bitcoin uses 61.76 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricty per year, more than many countries and around 0.28 percent of worldwide electricity consumption.
The Czech Republic ๐จ๐ฟ consumes an estimated 62.34 TWh while Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ consumes 58.46 TWh annually by comparison. In fact, if Bitcoin was a country, it would be the 41st most-energy-demanding nation on earth.

๐ฉโ๐ป StackOverflow's 2019 Developer Survey Results ๐จโ๐ป
This year, nearly 90,000 developers took the survey. Here are some key results:
- For the 7th year in a row, #JavaScript is the most commonly used programming language, but #Python has risen in the ranks again.
- Over half of respondents had written their first line of code by the time they were 16, although this experience varies by country & by gender.
- Respondents were asked to think about the last time they solved coding problems with & without #StackOverflow. The data indicate that Stack Overflow saves a developer 30 to 90 minutes of time per week!
- About 65% of professional developers on Stack Overflow contribute to #OpenSource projects once a year or more.
- #Reddit & #YouTube were the most common answers to what social media site they use the most. (No #Telegram in the list! Wtf, StackOverflow!?)

๐ค Microsoft might be doing to Slack what Facebook did to Snapchat
Techie's favorite communications tool, Slack, is losing ground to its biggest rival, Microsoft Teams, which has copied its way into popularity. In other words, Slack has the same problem as Snapchat, which has suffered from its bigger rival Facebookโs relentless appropriation.
Currently, over 13 million people use #Microsoftโs Teams app for chat, meetings and document collaboration every day, compared to #Slack's 10+ million daily users in the three months that ended on January 31.
Microsoft, at one point, had even considered buying Slack. Instead, nearly four years after Slackโs debut, Microsoft launched Teams, which has since adopted many of its competitorโs functions, including the basic premise of creating an online office space for coworkers to collaborate and communicate.
โ๏ธ Apparently, Microsoft Teams isnโt better than Slack, but it is freer and was tolerable as a Slack alternative!
