Stan Lee, the legendary comic book writer and former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, has passed away. Born in 1922, Lee was involved in the creation of some of the most iconic comic characters in the world, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man and Hulk. Lee eventually became the figurehead of Marvel, known and beloved by comic book fans around the world.

Despite the decade-spanning popularity of Marvel Comics, it wasn’t until the 21st century that Lee’s work really became a money-making machine. The success of the first live-action Spider-Man movie in 2002 kicked off a comic book movie craze, creating billions of dollars in box office revenue across the globe. Video marketing has been growing in popularity in recent times, and new statistics from a Brightcove study provide some reasons why that’s the case. Fully three-quarters (76%) of the almost 4,500 adults surveyed in the US, UK and Australia report having made a purchase after viewing a marketing video.

The Brightcove report indicates that video holds even greater appeal among #Millennials, as 85% of 18-34-year-olds said they’d made a purchase after watching a marketing video.

#Amazon’s relationship to its hometown, Seattle, WA, has been complicated at best. The company has poured close to $4 billion in real estate spending into the city. Amazon is currently employing 45,000 people who have an average annual salary of $110,000. Critics say these moves have driven up the cost of living in the city. 😎 AR vs VR: the Engagement

In a recent research study conducted by GWI in the UK and U.S., it was found that over 90% of consumers in these markets are aware of VR, with around 65% saying they’re aware of AR.

Awareness of AR hovers between the 70-75% mark among the 16-44 age group, but drops dramatically among 45-54s (56%) and 55-64s (44%). By gender, males (71%) display a notably higher level of awareness of AR compared to women (59%).

These awareness level figures stand in sharp contrast to the rate of consumers who are actually engaging with AR and VR on a monthly basis in the UK and U.S.

According to new research from VoucherCodes and the Centre for Retail Research, UK consumers are predicted to spend Β£13.41m per minute over the Cyber Weekend this year. This equates to Β£8.29bn in online and offline sales from Black Friday through to Cyber Monday – a 6% uplift on the Β£7.78bn spent in 2017.

The figures reveal that spending over the Cyber Weekend has grown significantly over the last five years, with online and offline spend up 66% and 68% respectively since 2013. In total, spending online and on the high street over those four days alone now accounts for 24% of festive sales, compared to 14% in 2013.

This year, shoppers are expected to spend Β£2.44bn on Black Friday. Sales are set to continue to increase over the weekend, reaching their peak on Cyber Monday as consumers are predicted to spend almost Β£2.96bn on the final day of the weekend.

Riding a wave of ramped up international marketing and notoriety among influencers, video-based social app #TikTok from Beijing’s Bytedance saw its highest earning month to date in October. According to Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence estimates, TikTok grew its user spending on in-app purchases some 275% or 3.75x YoY last month to more than $3.5 million worldwide.
