Israel To Accelerate Missile Defense Development Following Iran War

The tests will focus on the Arrow 3 and Arrow 4 systems in hopes of intercepting incoming missiles far from Israeli territory in the future

The Israeli military is preparing to conduct a series of tests of its air defense systems to accelerate their development in the coming year, with an emphasis on the Arrow 3 and Arrow 4 systems, Israeli media reported on 15 August.

A senior security source told Walla that the goal of the tests is to examine technological changes in Israel's air defense systems, which are tasked with intercepting missiles and drones, based on lessons learned from Israel's 12-day unprovoked war against Iran.

In June, Israel launched “Operation Am Kalavi” to bomb Iranian military and civilian sites with drones and F-35 warplanes. The US later joined the war in support of Israel, bombing Iran's three major nuclear sites.

Iran retaliated by launching ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, and targeted the US's Al-Udeid air base in Doha.

According to the security source speaking with Walla, the development and implementation of technological changes will allow the Israeli military to intercept threats far from Israeli territory and to expand interception options.

US ‘Stonewalls’ Gulf Calls For More Interceptors As Supplies Quickly Run Out: Report

A Saudi political analyst says that there is ‘disappointment’ with the US for focusing efforts on defending Israel while allowing Gulf states to bear the brunt of Iran’s operations

Washington has been “stonewalling” its Gulf allies’ requests for a replenishment of air defense missiles, Middle East Eye (MEE) reported, coinciding with intensifying Iranian attacks on US bases and assets across the region.

“At least one Gulf state that has come under attack from Iran asked US officials about replenishing supplies that have been depleted since the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran, but was brushed off,” a former US official familiar with the matter told MEE.

The former official said a separate Gulf state “responded to US requests to use air bases in their country with enquiries about the US’s commitment to their air defense systems,” and added that Washington’s Arab allies will “be left wanting if they expect new supplies of interceptors.”

“Whatever munitions were produced in the last couple of months, we have shot several years' worth of production in the last few days,” the source went on to say.

The report also says pressure is growing on Arab states to join Israel and the US in their war against Iran.

US Missile Stocks 'significantly Depleted' Since Start Of War On Iran: Report

Reports have indicated that Israel and Washington’s Gulf allies have also been dealing with dwindling air defense stockpiles

The US army “significantly depleted” its missile stockpile throughout the illegal war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to assessments and sources who spoke with CNN on 21 January.

As a result, it is now at “near-term risk” of running out, the report reveals.

“The US military has expended at least 45 percent of its stockpile of Precision Strike Missiles; at least half of its inventory of THAAD missiles, and nearly 50 percent of its stockpile of Patriot air defense interceptor missiles,” CNN reports, citing an analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

The Pentagon recently signed several contracts to expand the production of missiles. Yet delivery is estimated to take three to five years, even at increased capacity, according to the sources and the CSIS assessment.

The CNN report adds that Washington is likely capable of resuming attacks on Iran if the truce fully collapses.

The former prime ministers called the formation of their new coalition the 'most Zionist and patriotic act we have ever done'

Former Israeli prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid announced on 26 April that they are uniting their parties into a combined ticket called "Together – Led by Bennett," to challenge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel's upcoming elections.

Speaking at a press conference in the coastal city of Herzliya, Bennett said that joining forces with Lapid was the "most Zionist and patriotic act we have ever done, for the sake of our country."

The "era of division is over," Bennett added

Bennett, who will head the ticket and be its candidate for prime minister, also invited Yashar party chairman and former army chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot to join them, stating that "our door is open for you too."

Bennett, who calls himself a "right-wing, liberal Zionist," said he will only rely on "Zionist parties," thereby excluding Arab parties from his coalition.

Israeli Mossad agents kidnapped Mordechai Vanunu in Rome in September 1986.

Vanunu’s Moroccan Jewish family immigrated to Israel when he was a child. After serving in the Army, he worked at the Negev Nuclear Research Center from 1976 until 1985, suspected by many around the world to house a secret Israeli nuclear weapons program.

While simultaneously pursing a college degree, he became active in student politics, including pro-Palestinian causes. He was warned by his superiors to cease his outside activities but did not.

In 1985, Vanunu took photos of the complex, including clear evidence of nuclear weapons development. Undiscovered, he then moved to Australia, where he converted to Christianity.

The following year, he offered the photos and story to a reporter from London’s Sunday Times, among others. His information was deemed credible, and he was flown to London for more interviews, where he was sequestered for many days in a hotel, while the story was corroborated and readied for publication.

Unbeknownst to anyone, a friend of Vanunu’s had also sold the story to the Sunday Mirror, owned by Robert Maxwell, a former Mossad officer and father of Ghislaine Maxwell.

In late September, Vanunu suddenly disappeared from London. He had struck up a relationship with an Israeli-American female Mossad agent posing as a tourist named Cindy. She convinced him to take a short trip to Rome with her, where he was captured, drugged, and smuggled back to Israel via ship.

While being transported in a van to court in late 1986, Vanunu wrote a message to camera crews on his hand, which read, “Vanunu M was hijacked in Rome ITL. 30.9.86. 21.000. Came to Rome by fly BA504.”

The Sunday Times published the story on Israel’s nuclear arsenal just days after his disappearance, and Vanunu was convicted of treason, serving 18 years before his release in 2004. Afterwards he was prohibited from leaving Israel and had continued legal troubles.

The American Mossad agent ‘Cindy’ returned to the US, where she reportedly began a new career as a real estate agent in Orlando, FL.
