Massachusetts abortion law, after 24 weeks.
Before: permitted when necessary to preserve the life or physical or mental health of the mother, or for a lethal or grave fetal diagnosis incompatible with sustained life outside the uterus.
After: "an abortion may be performed when based upon the professional judgment of the physician."
The House vote was 119 to 33. ๐งต
---
Read that again.
The legislature did not broaden the medical exception.
It did not add a category for catastrophic fetal abnormality.
It did not create an expedited process for physicians facing an emergency.
It removed the conditions.
---
And 24 weeks is not an arbitrary line.
At 24 weeks a fetus may survive outside the womb. With each additional week, survival improves substantially.
At the same gestational ages this law now permits, neonatal teams are fighting to keep premature infants alive.
---
We are told these abortions are overwhelmingly tragic medical necessities.
So we tried to answer one question.
How many abortions after viability are performed because the mother's life is threatened, or because the fetus has a lethal abnormality?
The government cannot tell us.
---
CDC surveillance places everything from 21 weeks onward into a single bucket.
22 weeks or 32 weeks? Not reported.
Why the abortion was performed? Not reported.
The most recent data show 1.1 percent of abortions at 21 weeks or later. That number tells you almost nothing.
---
The research that does exist is uncomfortable.
Kimport, 2022, peer reviewed. Interviews with 28 women who obtained abortions between 24 and 35 weeks.
Two pathways emerged. New information, sometimes a fetal diagnosis and sometimes late discovery of the pregnancy. And barriers: cost, finding a provider, stigma.
---
Colorado shows what happens with no gestational limit.
137 abortions reported at 28 weeks or later in 2023.
Clinics there advertise abortion well into the third trimester, and state plainly that no reason need be given.
How many involved a healthy mother and a healthy fetus? Colorado does not report it.
---
Nine states plus Washington, D.C. have no statutory gestational limit.
Alaska. Colorado. Maryland. Michigan. Minnesota. New Jersey. New Mexico. Oregon. Vermont.
Massachusetts now effectively joins them.
Over 54 million Americans live under these laws.
---
Here is what legislators should have answered before removing the boundary.
If abortions after 24 weeks are overwhelmingly performed for catastrophic fetal abnormality or genuine threat to maternal health, collect the data and demonstrate it.
If they are not, the public deserves to know that too.
---
Instead the Senate passed it without a recorded roll call.
And then the photographs.
Politicians and advocates gathered around Governor Healey. Smiling. Applauding. Posing for the commemorative photograph.
That is the part I cannot get past.
---
People disagree about abortion. They disagree about bodily autonomy, fetal rights, and where the law should draw a line.
But human development does not stop because the subject makes us uncomfortable.
A civilized society can conclude that a terrible thing has happened.
This one applauded.

Late-term Pregnancy Killings "Legal" in Massachusetts
Innocent children will die
๐ข120๐คฌ72โค17๐12๐ฅ3๐ค2๐1๐คจ1
It seems like these women - the governor, and politicians in Massachusetts who have advocated for the bill to legalizing killing babies up until 40 weeks - should go visit the NICU - and meet a premie... A conscious being who could have been killed in an "abortion" - at the same age as their birth.

We were told that marrying young is a recipe for divorce.
Jill and I married at 18 and 19. Almost five decades later, we started looking at the actual research.
It turns out age may not be the most important variable at all.
Divorce runs in families. So does the age at which people marry. Children of divorce are more likely to marry other children of divorce, compounding the risk. Families appear to transmit not just whether we marry, but what we believe marriage is, how permanent we expect it to be, and when walking away becomes acceptable.
Maybe the real question isn't, โAre you too young to marry?โ
Maybe it is: โDid you choose someone who was taught the same meaning of marriage that you were?โ

We were vegetarians for more than 30 years.
We thought we ate well.
By 2022, we were both technically obese and in poor metabolic health.
So we did something unfashionable: we changed our minds.
We ate meat. Prioritized protein. Cut processed carbohydrates, seed oils, added sugars and ultra-processed food. We began eating eggs from our chickens, meat raised on grass, raw milk, vegetables from our garden and grains we milled ourselves.
We each lost 50 pounds. Years later, the weight is still gone. So are several chronic problems we had begun to accept as โaging.โ
Maybe the first intervention in your health isn't another prescription.
Maybe it is dinner.

Freezing is not a kill step. It never was. Fewer than a hundred organisms of this strain can put a child on dialysis, and they survive a freezer for months.

Ground News promises to break the media echo chamber.
But we found something remarkable hiding inside its โFactualityโ ratings.
Conservative news outlets scored nearly 5 points lower in reliability than comparable outlets on the Left, even though they were no more ideologically extreme.
Then Ground News takes those publication-wide ratings and puts them beside individual stories, even though it admits the articles themselves have not been fact-checked.
The conservative story finally gets onto the page.
It just arrives pre-labeled as less trustworthy.

FDA REFUSED Modernaโs mRNA flu vaccine because the company hadnโt tested it against the vaccines seniors actually receive.
Moderna called for White House intervention.
Trump intervened.
14 days later, FDA reversed itself.
The missing trial was never done.
Instead, FDA approved the vaccine for seniors and moved the experiment to after licensure, when up to 800,000 people will determine whether it actually provides greater clinical protection.
Meanwhile:
โข ~137 people must switch vaccines to prevent one additional case of flu.
โข For every 22 who switch, one additional person has a reaction severe enough to stop normal daily activity.
โข FDA found 29 unexplained/sudden/sudden-cardiac deaths vs. 12 in controls. No autopsies were performed on the mFLUSIVA deaths.
โข The FDA advisory panel voted 9โ0. Twice.
โข For seniors, FDA approved on antibodies, not demonstrated superiority in illness, hospitalization or death over the enhanced vaccines they already receive.
And this license can help lower the evidentiary burden for Modernaโs next mRNA vaccine.
This isn't just a story about a flu shot.
It is a story about what โFDA approvedโ now means.
