Crundwellโs scheme was the largest municipal embezzlement in US history and left the town of 15,000 struggling for many years.
The Biden family does have a type - they love an embezzler.

Why ๐ฎ๐ณ India is disadvantaged by ๐น๐ท Turkey's influence in the Middle East
Turkey's expanding influence in the Middle East, particularly through last year's launch of๐ฎ๐ถ Iraq's $17 billion 'Development Road' project, is shifting regional dynamics and could be placing India at a disadvantage.
Hereโs why:
โช๏ธ Bypassing India: The Development Road could sideline Indiaโs role in the Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), limiting access to crucial trade routes.
โช๏ธ Turkeyโs Rising Influence: With Turkey deepening ties with Iraq, the Gulf countries, and China, India risks losing strategic leverage in the region.
โช๏ธ Chinaโs Belt and Road: The Development Road ties into India's rivalry Belt and Road project, further isolating India from key economic corridors.

A reminder to all, the Atlantic Council is effectively the unofficial think tank for NATO.
Some very interesting points in the article. First, of course, all the usual (and obligatory) platitudes about change and democracy.
But later, while never expressing it in exactly these terms, the very Atlantic Council itself, seems to ascribe to the reality that we have, in fact, transitioned to a multipolar world!
Their plan, the "reconstruction blueprint" as they call it, must be multinational:
When it comes to planning for the countryโs reconstruction, the international community has a lot of new leverage in the wake of Assadโs flight. No entity will be able to effectively run the country without near-total dependence on foreign aid. Using that leverage to make sure the reconstruction of Syria unfolds more successfully than Iraqโs or Afghanistanโs should be the next priority.
If that isn't a recognition of the reality of a multipolar world, where America cannot do it alone, I don't know what is! And please note, Russia would be included in the must have countries for the reconstruction.
Of course, they say America must lead, this is NATO talking, they couldn't say otherwise. Nonetheless, we might consider this a small milestone on the long road to a new world order.

Assadโs Final Act: The Resistance at a Crossroads
Israeli special forces recently executed a brutal op in Syria's Qalamoun region (international law be damned), targeting Hezbollah's largest missile caches hidden in fortified sites. When airstrikes and bunker-busting bombs failed, Israeli troops infiltrated, demolishing strategic missiles with shocking ease. Similar strikes hit Quneitra, destroying weapons that had survived over a decade of bombardment. Over several days, 580 airstrikes unleashed more than 1,800 bombs, crippling Hezbollahโs missile โGolan Unitโ - a crucial asset rendered inactive by Assadโs refusal to engage during critical moments.
Elijah Magnier rightfully recounted how Assadโs calculated inaction fractured the once-cohesive Resistance. By withholding authorization for operations against Israel, even after the existentialist October 7thโs โOperation Al-Aqsa Flood,โ Assad signaled neutrality, hoping this would buy security from his enemies. Iran, Syriaโs steadfast ally, scaled back its presence, frustrated by Assadโs refusal to retaliate against Israeli strikes on Iranian positions. Hezbollah, despite its heroic resistance in southern Lebanon, faced logistical isolation as Assad prioritized perceived regime survival over coordinated defense.
Israelโs campaign to dismantle Hezbollahโs assets and disrupt logistic routes from Syria to Lebanon marked a strategic turning point. Over 580 air raids targeted Hezbollahโs warehouses, military industries, and missile production facilities. While these strikes weakened Hezbollahโs logistics, they failed to deliver the crushing blow Netanyahu sought. Hezbollahโs forces in southern Lebanon remain intact, preventing Israeli advances south of the Litani River. Yet, the damage to Syriaโs defensive capabilities is catastrophic. Israeli forces now stand 17 km from Damascus.
This is the grim legacy of Assadโs missteps. Once a linchpin of the Resistance, Syria is now shattered. Assadโs reliance on UAE and Saudi โnormalizationโ diplomacy over critical advice from Iran and Russia exposed his inability to navigate the pressures of imperial siege. His failure to confront Israel or engage with Syriaโs legitimate domestic opposition sealed the fate of his regime. Cities fell as the demoralized and underpaid Syrian army retreated, leaving the country fractured and vulnerable. Iran, once deeply embedded in Syriaโs brigades, scaled back its presence, frustrated by Assadโs refusal to engage Israel or support regional resistance. Instead of uniting Syriaโs defenders, Assadโs political stagnation allowed imperial forces to isolate Damascus.
This blow to the Resistance represents a colossal betrayal of Syria's allies and its people. Assadโs inaction enabled Israel to rewrite the map of the Levant, advancing unchecked while Resistance forces stood divided. The most damning indictment of Assadโs rule is not his removal but the void he leaves behind, a shattered nation with no infrastructure, no deterrence, and no unified vision to reclaim sovereignty.
Israelโs strategy is clear: exploit hesistation within the Resistance, neutralize threats through relentless strikes, and consolidate dominance across the Levant. Iran, Hezbollah, and even Russia could only do so much without a united Syrian front. The failure to act as one has given Israel free rein to turn Syria into a testing ground for its imperial ambitions, with brutal consequences for the region.
The Resistance must learn from these failures. This is no longer about Syria alone, it is about the very survival of the Resistance as a concept. From Damascus to Gaza, from the Bekaa Valley to Tehran, the Resistance must recognize that the stakes are existential. This is not a time for retreat or half-measures. Every fracture is a victory for the hegemon, every hesitation an invitation for further conquest.
Now is the time for the Resistance to rise as one, to bury petty divisions and face the hydra together. The Axis cannot remain a collection of fragmented efforts, it must become a singular, unyielding force.
- Gerry Nolan

๐บ๐ธ NO CORPORATE EMPLOYEE SAFE AS ANOTHER WHISTLEBLOWER DIES - #OpenAI whistleblower is found dead in his San Francisco apartment in apparent #suicide.
Suchir #Balaji, 26 (pictured), was an ex-developer of OpenAI, who went public with allegations that the company unethically used data to train its AI platform.
OpenAI uses an enormous amount of #data, including personal data, gathered from the internet to train ChatGPT without permission. The company also created a transcription software, which harvests data from YouTube.
Another one bites the dust - following the recent & sudden death of a Boeing whistleblower. Which intelligence agency is bopping off American citizens like that? #CronyCapitalism

I initially didn't know much about copyright, fair use, etc., but became curious after seeing all the lawsuits filed.
When I tried to understand the issue better, I came to the conclusion that the concept of fair use seems implausible for a lot of AI products, for the reason that they create substitutes with the data they're trained on - Balaji posted on X in October.

The move was announced by the Israeli FM, Gideon Saโar, who said it was prompted by the Irish govtโs โextreme anti-Israeli policies.โ
Irish Taoiseach - Simon Harris - posted on X: โI utterly reject the assertion that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland is pro-peace, pro-human rights and pro-international law.โ
Israel has not applied similar measures to other countries, including Egypt, Spain, and Mexico, that also joined the petition.

Entire settlements have been flattened over the weekend as the cyclone tore apart buildings with winds of more than 124mph.
Francois-Xavier Bieuville, a senior Mayotte official, told local TV: โI think there are some several hundred dead, maybe weโll get close to a thousand, even thousands... given the violence of this event.โ
