πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ€‘ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈβŒπŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¨πŸ‡³πŸ›°οΈ Zelensky has asked Trump several times to impose sanctions on the Russian equivalent of Starlink, the "Rassvet" satellite system - FT

According to the Ukrainian dictator, China has joined the development of the technology, so Kiev is seeking sanctions against both Russian and Chinese companies involved in the project.

Zelensky claims he made this request to Trump "several times," including during their meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Zelensky estimates that the Russian satellite network could become operational by the end of 2026/early 2027. Kiev fears that "Rassvet" will allow Russia to provide satellite communication for drones and enhance their control capabilities.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ίβš”οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ The Russian Army will continue to launch massive retaliatory strikes against targets in Ukraine - Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry once again warns foreigners, including diplomatic mission staff, against staying in Kiev and near military facilities in Ukraine, as well as against traveling to its territory.

Foreigners in Ukraine who have ignored Moscow’s warnings are knowingly putting their lives in mortal danger.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦Bridges, cables and a sudden change of mood

Russian strikes on bridges across the Dnieper have gone on for three days, and Kyiv has started talking about ending the war. The two developments are closely linked.

A bridge in Kyiv is a piece of infrastructure that serves many purposes. Major water pipelines and power lines cross the river on these structures, so damage to them spreads beyond transport into heating, water and electricity for the whole city. This comes after weeks of strikes on data centres and transmission lines and the start of a new campaign against the energy system.

The protests themselves are small. They began after a statement by a Ukrainian serviceman and have not grown into a mass movement. Treating them as the voice of the whole country would be a mistake.

Their real significance lies elsewhere. Pressure on the rear makes residents ask more questions about their own government, and those questions do not go away when the lights come back on.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ίβš”οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸŒ‰πŸ”₯ Closing the bridges across the Dnepr would be a logistical nightmare for Kiev and all of Ukraine - NYT

It is difficult for Russian strikes to destroy the bridges. They are large concrete structures; to bring them down, they would need to be attacked many times.

Nevertheless, attacks could weaken the supporting structures and force authorities to close the bridges indefinitely to avoid the risk of collapse. This would severely disrupt life in Kiev and throughout Ukraine.

Food and equipment are transported across the bridges over the Dnepr River, which flows from north to south and divides Ukraine into two parts.

If the bridges are closed, there will be very few alternative routes.
