Dear All,
As you may be aware, the Government of Uzbekistan has announced today new measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Uzbekistan. These will include quarantine measures in all educational establishments including Universities starting from tomorrow, Monday, 16th March for the next three weeks.
Therefore, WIUT will also impose quarantine measures from tomorrow, Monday, 16th March for the next three weeks and it means that we will move to on-line teaching and learning mode where possible. No physical classes to be held from tomorrow and students shall stay at their homes or places of residence.
If students have their Course work (or other assessment) submission deadlines during the next three weeks they should only submit their works through on-line submission system, no paper based submission will be required.
As stated above we will be moving to on-line teaching and learning mode that means, all lecture and seminar materials shall be uploaded to intranet to enable students to self-study.
We will use our default means of communication such as WIUT e-mail system and WIUT official telegram bot for important updates, therefore, please check your e-mail boxes regularly.
Starting from tomorrow (16th of March), WIUT imposes quarantine measures for the next three weeks. So nobody will attend university tomorrow.
For this moment there was no information about upcoming deadlines. All details are to be announced, so keep preparing for Macro and for optional modules until we’ll be provided with clear instructions.
Wish health to each of you
Please, stay safe and calm.
With All the Best Wishes,
Komiljon Karimov

Dear All,
With the most recent requirements from the Special Republican Commission to Prevent the Outbreak and Spread of COVID-19 in Uzbekistan, WIUT has transitioned fully to an online teaching and learning mode.
WIUT’s official website and COVID-19 webpage are the primary source of information and updates related to the University operations. The University communicates all updates across the various channels available.
WIUT understands that during this period of transition to online instruction, the faculty and student support have the ever-increased responsibility of offering as much guidance and assistance to students as possible. WIUT continues to put its best efforts to deliver the highest standards of student experience and quality education.
All teaching is now delivered through WIUT’s Intranet-based Learning Management System. Students should take due responsibility for following their respective modules – lectures, seminars and other supporting materials - and completing all assignments as per schedule. For additional assistance and support, faculty staff is available for contact during normal working hours by University e-mail. Additional contact information for Faculty and Faculty Support is appended at the end of this message.
Additionally, the University has geared up to offer comprehensive support to students:
Learning Resources
Learning Resources Centre has prepared the following actions to support distance learning mode for students:
Digital library: all students have access to digital library (lrc.wiut.uz) which includes the collection of the most demanded textbooks and other useful learning materials. Students need to log into the platform to download a copy of an e-book. The Digital Library collection is expecting additional 65 e-books as recommended by academic staff members. (For details contact: Lola Shadmanova, Abbos Utkirov- Blended Learning Specialists, 71 238-74-20)
Electronic databases subscription is available for access off-campus through the: proxy.wiut.uz. Moreover, there are Open Access sources listed in the Intranet/University Library/Online Resources (For details contact: Khamid Inomkhojaev, Anvar Alimbaev, Kamola Ibragimova- Knowledge Management specialists- 71 2387420)
Educational videos are being recorded by LRC staff to supporting effective usage of databases and access details. They will shortly be available on lrc.wiut.uz and announced through the official WIUT channels. For any queries students may email: lrc@wiut.uz
Academic Support
Academic Support Office continues to provide support in the key areas of academic advice, study skills support (with increased focus on online learning mode), academic English, quantitative skills in the following ways:
Telephone: Students can contact Academic Support Center during normal working hours at +998 71 2387432 to ask their questions via phone.
E-mail: Students can e-mail academicsupport@wiut.uz and expect a reply within 24 hours of the inquiry. Students are free to ask questions and clarifications for matters that they approach for one-on-one sessions.
Virtual advice: During scheduled sessions announced in the Calendar on Academic Learning Support page on Intranet, academic support officers will be offering video-audio-conferencing support using Zoom application. A video-audio-conference permits up to 100 attendees, so normal registration rules apply. In a video-conference session students will be able to address their questions live to academic support officers.
Online Discussion Forum: A more streamlined discussion forum is made available for the students on Academic Support Office’s intranet page to ask questions to the relevant academic support officer. The discussion board allows threads to be created by students in which they can ask questions, while students who have similar or identical questions can review already created threads.

Dear WIUT Students,
I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.
We, at WIUT, have been monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and the response of communities world-wide to this Global Pandemic.
Our absolute goal is to protect the health and wellbeing of the entire WIUT community, while continuing to ensure the delivery of our programmes to the best degree possible.
Just to remind you that WIUT’s official website and COVID-19 webpage are the primary source of information and updates related to the University operations and University communicates all important updates across the various channels available.
As you know, since last Monday, 16th March on our campuses, as a preventive measure, entry of students, guests and visitors have been restricted, and many employees are working remotely from home. We are offering distance learning for our students and, so far there has been no interruption of work by employees, and technology is being used to its fullest potential to maintain productivity.
You are also aware that, according to WIUT’s Academic Calendar for 2019-2020 we have scheduled the final exams’ week starting from 13th April which were supposed to be held mainly on campus. However, at this point of time we believe that organizing on-campus final exams may not be possible taking into account the current circumstances, and, therefore, it is decided that WIUT will offer students alternative assessment types which will not require physical presence of students on campus. The alternative assessments may include Take Home/Open Book Exams and other types of assessment which will give students opportunity to submit their assessments remotely (on-line) without a need to come to WIUT. For this purpose all concerned WIUT Academic Staff is right now geared up to prepare the alternatives. Most probably early next week, students shall receive from Academic Registrar’s Office the revised schedule for submission of their alternative assessments and necessary guidelines. This information will be communicated to you by your WIUT e-mail and, therefore, please check regularly your e-mail accounts not to miss important information/updates.
Just to make it clear, it will not be a real time on-line assessments because we understand the concern of those students who live in remote areas and may have poor internet connection and, thus, may be disadvantaged. Therefore, students will be given enough time to prepare and submit their assessments.
We took this decision in the best interests of our students as we care about your health and wellbeing, and if I may appeal to you, PLEASE STAY AT HOME DURING THE QUARANTINE PERIOD AND DON’T GO OUT AS WE WORK HARD TO GIVE YOU OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND DEVELOPE. As your social responsibility, please encourage your close ones, relatives and friends to stay @home as well!
Don’t forget to wear a protective mask as directed by Authorities if you critically need to go out. I would also like to ask you to follow and strictly comply with the other directives of the Authorities.
Take care and stay safe @HOME!
Wishing you all the best,
Komiljon Karimov

Summer program MAYBE continued
Dear Intrax Participant,
All sponsors have received guidance to delay arrivals until May 11th and even if a further delay is necessary, Intrax is committed to welcoming summer participants and ensuring that students currently in the U.S. return home safely.
First of all, I hope that all of you and your families are well and are managing to cope with the dramatic changes to our lives that are being experienced around the world. The actions being taking across the globe to follow government health directives will allow us to come out the other side of this situation sooner rather than later.
Our San Francisco HQ staff have been working from home for the past ten days (and the unknown future) and are successfully continuing to conduct business during these complicated times. Juggling children at home and working effectively with your staff and all our participants certainly adds complications to our lives but our team is handling these challenges exceptionally well. We are all concerned regarding the economic impact on you and our program. I want you to know that our entire team is being proactive and productive to insure that our programs operate as normally as possible. While we are taking care of the present, and planning for the future, I want to reassure you that we are on a firm financial footing, and well positioned to weather this unusual situation. We have a strong, creative, and determined team, and we will be here to support you now and in future as soon as the current travel bans are lifted.
Intrax is prepared to work with you in a flexible way to make sure we can continue to provide our excellent program and support to you. In addition, the State Department has indicated they are prepared to allow us maximum flexibility on deadlines and other regulations during this difficult time, and we will address these exceptions program-by-program.
We feel the future will be bright and thank you for your trust. We are here for you today, and always. Please address any specific concerns or questions to this email address if any. We thank you for your patience, and support. We understand that the last several weeks have had many disconcerting global developments about COVID-19, and while concerns continue, we write today to reassure you that Intrax remains oriented toward summer 2020 arrivals.
We are encouraged by the cooperation of host communities and companies that are assisting in-country students and we have been receiving reports from host companies across the U.S. that they are optimistic about moving forward with a successful summer. Intrax is planning for the same and have been heartened to know from our overseas partners that many students remain interested in summer arrivals.
All sponsors have received guidance to delay arrivals until May 11th and even if a further delay is necessary, Intrax is committed to welcoming summer participants and ensuring that students currently in the U.S. return home safely.
SUMMER ENHANCEMENTS
Below are some ways that we can reinforce our program for the summer.
Insurance: Envisage has confirmed that any Coronavirus Covid-19 related expenses would be covered under the current plan. Intrax recommends supplemental insurance for participants should they have specific concerns.
· Pre-Existing Health Issues: Students are requested to study their pre-existing health conditions (e.g. respiratory health issues) to reconsider coming on the program.
o Should you with pre-existing health conditions move forward with an application, it is vital they are aware Envisage will not cover pre-existing conditions. Supplemental insurance should be purchased.
· Health Records:
o Health Certification – the below are suggestions and not currently requirements.
§ We recommend consulting with a doctor and obtaining a certification of good health (with translation) in the days before flying to the U.S.
§ Copies of health records/immunizations would be helpful for participants (e.g. tuberculosis, measles, rubella, hepatitis,)
· Spirit of the Program:

As always, this program is primarily about cultural exchange so if there is any indication of a company potentially displacing American workers, then Intrax will not allow those placements.
o The White House is anticipating a strong recovery, but we ask for your understanding and continued support.
· Travel and Visa Information:
o Ensure that you post visa interview dates and results to MyIntrax.
o Once visa issuance resumes, this will demonstrate concretely to host companies that they can expect student arrivals (i.e. important to avoid cancellations by providing visa information).
OPERATIONS
Please reach out to Intrax if you have any questions or concerns. We wish you, your families, and team all the best.
Regards,
Your Intrax Work Travel Team

‼️FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED 1200$ due to pandemic in US after filing tax return ‼️
Dear Participants,
Spirit hopes you are doing well and staying healthy! As part of the United States' COVID-19 stimulus law (the CARES Act), the United States is sending a CARES payment to all U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Some of you may be surprised to receive such a deposit in your bank account. We believe that J-1 participants who filed the wrong tax return for 2018 or 2019 may receive this payment in error. Spirit participants are J-1 nonresident aliens and are not eligible for a CARES payment or any financial assistance through the CARES Act. We strongly urge you not to spend this money and leave it in your bank account. The United States government is aware of this issue and is investigating the situation.
Participants who have filed the wrong tax return or have received a CARES payment can fix this problem by following the steps below.
1 Determine if you filed your 2018 and 2019 tax return correctly. As a J-1 nonresident alien you should probably be filing a 1040-NR tax return. Spirit Cultural Exchange recommends Sprintax (www.sprintax.com) as the preferred tax software for J-1 participants. If you used TurboTax, you probably filed the wrong tax return. To file a corrected (amended) tax return, simply contact Sprintax and they will assist you. Spirit's participants are provided free assistance with their 2019 U.S. federal tax return. Simply access the Spirit Support Center and select FREE TAX FILING and you will be connected to Sprintax for assistance.
2 To return the CARES payment to the U.S. government, you should do so separately from your amended tax return. Please click on this link and follow the instructions from the U.S. tax authority (IRS) to return your payment: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc161
3 Make copies of everything you send to the IRS for any future visa applications.
It is important that you file the correct tax forms and return any payments that were sent you in error. If you do not, it may negatively impact your ability to apply for a visa in the future. The IRS will work to recover any payments made in error and INTEREST (%) will be added to any payments that are not returned.
