Dear Students,

Today’s rubric of #FAQ is Referral/Deferral Assessments (also known as #Semester9)

Referral Assessment:
A Referral gives a student an opportunity to retrieve a failed assessment component(s) of a failed module. From this academic year the regulations of the Referral Assessment were changed and now a student with any mark below 40 have a chance to a referral exam during the summer period. The mark awarded to any referred assessment component will be capped at the pass mark (40).

Deferral Assessment:
A student may only be deferred in a module as a result of mitigating circumstances. Where a student is deferred in a module, it will not count as an attempt at that module and the student will have a right to be assessed as if for the first time (so you can get mark higher than 40).

Condonment:
Condonement is a mechanism by which a module can be passed and credit can be awarded even where the module pass mark or a qualifying mark, and thus the module learning outcomes, have not been achieved. Condonement is only available to students undertaking modules at Levels 3 and 4 and the overall module mark should be at least 30.

Retake:
A Retake gives the student an opportunity to retrieve the failed assessment component(s) of a failed module during the next academic year, and requires the student to repeat the module in its entirety, with attendance, including all assessment components that may have already been passed. The student will be liable for the appropriate tuition fees.
