Three waves into the star-studded lineup, we’ve seen a terrific array of diecast diversity. The line has showcased all kinds of cars the Hot Wheels team could see themselves in, including a few they have actually driven!

Apparently, each mix will feature a car from the Hot Wheels “Garage of Legends” — Mattel’s garage of 1:1 Hot Wheels. The site for the cars is inconveniently down at the time this article was published, but if you’ve been a collector for a while, you can probably recall most of them. From the 2020 #Boulevard line alone: the #’67 Camaro, ’18 COPO Camaro, this #’66 Pontiac GTO have all been released, with the #Twin Mill coming in mix D.

Instead of re-releasing the old Hot Wheels ’67 Pontiac GTO casting, Hot Wheels designer #Mark Jones Designed the new #’66 Pontiac GTO as a premium replacement for the ’67 GTO casting he designed over 20 years ago.

Orange Track Diecast

Hot Wheels ’66 Pontiac GTO from the 2020 Boulevard line (with ’67 GTO from Fast Than ever Series and Larry’s Garage)

The result is a #’66 Pontiac GTO that is a much closer replica to the GTO Mattel has in its Garage of Legends. A short time after the 1:1 was first built for SEMA in 2006, Hot Wheels released the ’67 Pontiac GTO in a replica color scheme for Larry’s Garage in 2009. The car was considered premium at the time as it retailed in the $3 price range and wore #Real Riders, despite not having a metal base, nor front & rear details. One year later, a closer replica (in terms of paint) of the 1:1 found it’s way into the mainline as part of 2010’s Faster Than Ever series. Below you can see the difference between the castings, and how far Hot Wheels Premium has come in the last 10 years.

Orange Track Diecast

Hot Wheels ’66 Pontiac GTO from the 2020 Boulevard line (head-to-head with ’67 GTO from Larry’s Garage)

Clearly, the big difference between the ’66 and ’67 GTOs is the stance. The ’67 has a raked stance while the new ’66 sits a lot closer to the ground. When comparing the two castings side-by-side, you can also tell that the ’66 has many more refined details to the casting. Given that this is a rare case in which the same designer designed the cars 20+ years apart, you can see how Mark’s skill has evolved in addition to his ability to utilize modern technology such as 3D printing. What’s funny is that the car is still sitting on #Real Riders LW5 Wheels as no #Real Rider that more closely resembles the 1:1 car’s wheels was developed. With that said, the chrome lip on the black 5-spokes looks twenty times better than the all gray LW5s on the Larry’s Garage release. As far as graphics detail goes, there is no contest as the new #Boulevard edition is done up exceptionally well. This release even carries over the “HW GTO” California license plate.

Orange Track Diecast

Hot Wheels ’66 Pontiac GTO from the 2020 Boulevard line (reverse view)

I regrettably did not get any pictures of the new #’66 Pontiac GTO with the Custom ’66 GTO Wagon which also has the same lowered-stance. Coincidentally, the wagon was actually used in the first iteration of Boulevard back in 2012.

This GTO though … let me just say that even with the numerous #GTOs that were retooled for ultra-premium use in the Red Line Club, this tool is the best one so far and you GTO-nuts out there have to be ecstatic for this one. I personally cannot wait to see how this one is released next.…

Roadkill’s favorite turbo-charged rustbucket is the project that never fails to fail. The infamous #Custom ’71 Datsun 240Z nicknamed the “Rotsun” now joins a long list of famed #TV & Movie Cars courtesy of a promotion between Hot Wheels and MotorTrend. For fans of the show — like myself — the Rotsun has seen many lives. Hot Wheels designs are known for having character elements as part of their custom design, but since this car is a character in its own right, Hot Wheels had to get this one right — and they did!

Apart from the completely custom engine that was thrown into this built-from-scratch Hot Wheels casting, the body of the #Custom ’71 Datsun 240Z also has a few features that separate it from other Hot Wheels #Z castings from that era. First of all, this casting has side mirrors. Collectors love to hate on Hot Wheels cars without side mirrors and since this one wasn’t built for the orange track…

Gone were the Skyline, Kool Kombi, and new Toyota AE86 from the latest assortment of this #Walmart Exclusive line. It puzzled me how someone could leave what I consider the best car in the wave behind. No, I’m not some cult follower of #Alfa Romeos, let alone this specific car that I’ve most likely never seen a 1:1 of before. Rather, it’s this curvy Italian design from the 1960s that is in its stock, fiery red paint that is the real draw here.Orange Track DiecastHot Wheels ’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from the 2020 HW Boulevard line (side view)It is hard to believe that the #First Edition of the #’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a #Walmart Exclusive here in the United States as this is truly a car that should be released on a much larger scale. Of course, as I say that, I really hope this mix of #Boulevard shows up in Europe as I know there are some #Alfa Romeo fans there that can appreciate such a design. Being that this is a new casting in a somewhat limited release — in its stock deco to boot — it’s hard to imagine us getting a better version of this casting somewhere down the line.Orange Track DiecastHot Wheels ’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from the 2020 HW Boulevard lineFiery red paint is one thing, but the casting execution by Hot Wheels designer, Mark Jones, is another. Not only was he tasked with capturing the curves of the 1:1 car in 1:64 scale, but his decision to have the window piece poke through the body to form the massive signature headlights of the #’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was a great call.QUICK LINK! Find available ’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradales for sale. The large windows of this car provide a chance for natural light to shine through, showing off an often underappreciated element of Hot Wheels cars: the interiors. To the casual observer, most interiors tend to blend together as seats, and steering wheels are mostly unexcitable at this scale in a single color. When there is a mid-engine involved in the design however, your first instinct is to check the number of cylinders, then comes playful engine roars as you push the car across the nearest flat surface. Yeah, mid-engine Hot Wheels are fun. Sometimes you pity the cardboard collector…Orange Track DiecastHot Wheels ’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from the 2020 HW Boulevard line (engine close-up)The #Boulevard #’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is ultra-cool and I’m glad whoever it was, left it behind. The vent detail on this thing is amazing and traditionally I just love the color red on an #Exotic car. The gray #Real Riders 8-Spoke Wheels cap off this car’s luxurious feel. Oh, and I see you exhaust detail there in the back.Orange Track DiecastHot Wheels ’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from the 2020 HW Boulevard line (rear view)Hopefully, this wave of #Boulevard is hitting in your neck of the woods as well. I can’t wait to find the others, but should you have to choose one car from this mix, go with the #’69 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. There is no telling what the future holds for this casting as it could be done in a wide array of colors, or it could be a one & done. Either way, it doesn’t seem like we will see another red version soon, so if you choose to collect the most realistic deco for a casting, this is it.Post navigationFollow ORANGE TRACK DIECAST on WordPress.comTranslate%d bloggers like this:via academic2.ru full
