📃Tiandy: Use of Surveillance for Identification and Suppression (Dossier 8)
🔹Behind Iran's intensifying crackdown on dissent lies a web of Chinese surveillance cameras, supplied by tech giant Tiandy, enabling authorities to track and detain protesters in what human rights advocates call a 'digital dragnet.'

🔺Particularly in 2022-2023 Iran experienced widespread protests called “Woman, Life, Freedom” sparked by the killing of Mahsa Amini by the Morality Police. As these protests grew and the potential for their resurgence remained, the Islamic Republic intensified efforts to identify and suppress dissent, notably through the extensive use of surveillance cameras across urban areas.

🔸Over the past year, numerous reports have highlighted the installation of such cameras in Tehran and other cities nationwide.

📃Raising International Awareness of Tiandy's Role (Dossier 8)

🔹There is significant evidence that the Islamic Republic, particularly its security agencies, has intensified cooperation with Tiandy and increased the use of its products, a trend that continues. This shift appears to be driven by the authorities' recognition of their declining legitimacy among the public, prompting them to prepare for potential new waves of anti-government protests through the deployment of Tiandy surveillance cameras.

🔺A leaked "Highly Confidential" document reveals that the Thar-Allah Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a key entity in suppressing anti-government protests, has requested the Iranian government to pay its debt for the installation of "Facial Recognition Security" cameras in the Tehran metro.

📃Tiandy, Violations of Legal Frameworks (Dossier 8)

🔹Tiandy's collaboration with Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a key entity in Iran's security and military sectors, and its provision of surveillance equipment highlight a troubling nexus between private enterprises and state mechanisms of oppression. This intersection raises urgent questions about the role of corporations in enabling and perpetuating human rights violations, necessitating a serious and informed global debate.

🔺The use of surveillance technologies to suppress lawful dissent and enforce compulsory hijab laws, in the absence of clear legal frameworks for privacy and data protection, likely constitutes a grave violation of international human rights laws. These violations undermine fundamental rights, including privacy, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly.
