🧠 AI Safety Warning

Geoffrey Hinton and OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki urged slowing AI development. Hinton said pursuing superintelligence without scientific consensus on safety or control could lead to the loss of control over AI smarter than humans, and possibly extinction.

The call followed the Artificial Superintelligence Security Bill, introduced in the UK Parliament on 8 September by ControlAI and Alex Sobel. Pachocki said models already research autonomously and recursive self-improvement is near, urging a voluntary slowdown until common safety standards emerge.

🇺🇸 Treasury Bond Buyback

The US Treasury will buy back up to $6 billion of bonds maturing in 2037–2046.

The limit was tripled. It rose from $2 billion per operation to at least $4 billion from September 9, while the September 10 operation is capped at $6 billion, among the largest recent buybacks in this segment.

The move is moderately positive for markets. Extra Treasury demand could support bond prices and lower yields, easing financial conditions and making risk-free assets less competitive with equities, BTC and other risk assets.

💻 LAPTOP Trader Loses $197,000

Today, one trader invested $200,000 in LAPTOP and almost entirely lost the position shortly after launch.

The trader withdrew $250,000 from Binance and bought 919 LAPTOP at an average price of about $218. After the crash, the position was worth about $3,000, leaving an unrealized loss of $197,000, or roughly 99%.

✊ SEC Eyes Blockchain Ownership Registry

SEC proposed making blockchain the primary ownership registry for tokenized stocks. Currently, on-chain data and the official off-chain shareholder list coexist, but only the latter has legal standing.

The proposal would update half-century-old rules for transfer agents, eliminating the need to maintain and reconcile two lists. Identity checks and transfer restrictions would remain in the token. Inheritance requests could be processed in one day instead of three to five days.

👐 Man Sues OpenAI Over ChatGPT

A 34-year-old California resident has sued OpenAI, alleging that during a manic episode, ChatGPT did not challenge his religious delusions and instead reinforced the idea that he could be Jesus or the messiah.

The plaintiff says he had told the model about his bipolar disorder and fear of being delusional, but the conversation continued developing his “special mission.” The crisis ended in a suicide attempt and hospitalization. He accuses OpenAI of inadequate safeguards for users experiencing psychosis or mania.
