😧 Trezor Flags Safe 5 Spy Module

Trezor said a possible spying module was found in a Safe 5 wallet bought in August through former reseller CryptoBilis. A user in Indonesia sent photos and a description.

An extra board with a cellular module and antenna allegedly read the recovery phrase from the screen and sent it over a mobile network when the wallet was powered.

Trezor has not verified the module or received the device for lab testing. It knows of no stolen funds. Similar inserts were found in Ledger wallets sold through CryptoBilis, which Trezor parted ways with on 9 October. This remains one unverified case.

Crypto industry losses from hacks and fraud since the start of 2026 reached a record $9.2 billion, according to CertiK.

October was the worst month, with $6.5 billion lost across 89 incidents. Around $3.03 billion was frozen or recovered, putting adjusted monthly losses at $3.47 billion.

18 years ago, on 31 October 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin whitepaper, “A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.”

The nine-page technical paper outlined a peer-to-peer payment system that later revolutionized financial technology. The Bitcoin network launched in January 2009. Satoshi disappeared in April 2011, and his identity remains unknown.
