Gotbit CEO avoids extra U.S. jail time for crypto market manipulation
Alexey Andryunin, founder of Russian market-making firm Gotbit, won’t serve more U.S. prison time after pleading guilty to wire fraud and market manipulation.
He already served 8 months in Portugal before extradition. Prosecutors had asked for 15.
Gotbit must repay $23M in crypto as part of a separate deal.
From 2018–2024, the firm used fake trades to inflate token volumes for exchange listings.
The FBI uncovered the scheme via “Operation Token Mirrors,” using a decoy token to catch bad actors.
Andryunin will be deported.
