Vatican Secretary of State apologizes to Russians. The Holy See has a deep respect for all the peoples of Russia, their dignity, faith, and culture, as well as for other countries and peoples of the world.
Earlier, Pope Francis drew condemnations over racist comments against Russian Chechens and Buryats.
“Generally, the cruellest are perhaps those who are of Russia but are not of the Russian tradition, such as the Chechens, the Buryats and so on,”the head of the Roman Catholic Church said.
The pope’s comments were swiftly condemned by Russian officials.
“This is no longer Russophobia, it’s a perversion on a level I can’t even name,” Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on her Telegram channel.
“We are one family with Buryats, Chechens and other representatives of our multinational and multi-confessional country,” Zakharova added.

Serious negotiations on security guarantees will not take place as long as NATO instructors and mercenaries remain in Ukraine, and until Russian-defined realities on the ground are recognized. This was stated in an interview with our agency by the director of the North America Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Darchiev.
"Until the pumping of weapons and finances to [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky's regime stops, American and NATO military personnel/mercenaries/trainers are withdrawn, and the realities we have defined on the ground are recognized, it is premature to start any serious negotiations on security guarantees in peg to Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic. The ball is now on the American side of the field," the diplomat said.
