聯合國人權事務委員會發表新疆問題報告，指觀測到新疆存在強制節育措施。報告指出自2017年以來生育率的急遽下降和宮內節育器放置率的急速上升。
另一方面，其實強制絕育並不限於個別地區。例如在1983年12個月內，某国就有1,300萬名婦女被迫接受絕育手術：
‘According to the Ministry of Health, each year—from 1983 to 2015—more than a million Chinese women were sterilized. In 1983 alone, the year China first implemented the One-Child Policy, more than 16 million women were forced to undergo surgery. The operation rooms—mostly temporary tents like the one my mom and I were taken to—were filthy, underequipped, and understaffed. The “surgeons” were often masked village doctors...'
