Texas declares Diesel Emergency (joining Louisiana)

Gov. Abbott signed an emergency declaration regarding the price of diesel:

“Texas agriculture and freight run on diesel,” Abbott wrote in a statement. “Record prices put both industries at risk and raise costs for every Texas family. Farmers and truckers can now use dyed diesel on Texas roads, and fuel, crop, and timber loads can move at a higher weight. These steps cut costs on the farm, on the road and at the store.”

What's odd is that the tax is not waived. You're free to use the red-dyed diesel, but still have to keep track of the tax they WOULD be paying, and remit payment. So this really provides very little relief ...

Ukraine's Closed Ports Leaves Tomatoes Rotting in the Field

Russian strikes on the Greater Odesa ports since July 23 have all but halted maritime traffic, costing Ukraine more than $2bn in lost exports by the central bank's reckoning, as the drone war between the two countries shifts to crippling ports.

About 90% of Ukraine's farm exports used to go by sea, and rail, road and Danube routes cover only about 44% of the volumes the harvest could support, Agrarian Policy Minister Taras Vysotskyi said in September.

Grain can at least be stored while farmers wait, although the country faces an 11mn-tonne storage shortfall this autumn.

Kernel chief executive Yevhen Osypov has warned that Ukraine could lose up to 12mn tonnes of its 2027 harvest as farmers stop planting crops they cannot sell abroad.

It's not just France - anyone with Danfoss could have their cold storage "cooked" overnight like this. A vulnerability in the Danfoss platform was documented on August 9th by Team 82:

Danfoss AK-SM 800A controllers are widely deployed to manage refrigeration infrastructure in supermarkets, cold-storage facilities, warehouses, and other commercial environments. Because these systems provide centralized management of refrigeration equipment, compromising the management interface can have significant operational consequences.

Team82 researched the attack surface of the Danfoss AK-SM 800A platform and identified multiple vulnerabilities affecting the embedded web management interface.

Our research uncovered a hidden "code-of-the-day" authentication mechanism that could be abused to bypass normal authentication, a command-injection vulnerability leading to remote code execution, and an issue allowing authenticated users to inject arbitrary Nginx configuration directives, which could be leveraged to manipulate web traffic and trigger a denial-of-service condition.

Our analysis began by examining the internet exposure of these devices, where we identified thousands of publicly accessible management interfaces.

The UK is saddling farmers with a new "carbon tax" on fertilizer -- even as the UN and Atlantic Council are warning of a global food crisis. This really is the war on farmers on full display.

The UK produces NO ammonia domestically, so the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) applies to all nitrogen-containing fertilizers.

Nebraska: Diesel Shortages prompt Executive Order

I'm hearing from folks in NE:

> "I live 3 miles off I80, and there are lines of stranded trucks with no fuel everywhere."

This is confirmed by local news (KSNB): "The diesel came in this morning, but it’s already running out. It’s on allocation.”

Last month, Gov. Pillen signed two other executive orders to help farmers facing high diesel costs. One raises the load capacity for trucks hauling seasonal products and livestock. The other authorizes the use of red-dye diesel and provides a state tax refund for clear diesel used in agricultural operations and vehicles.
