Now similar concerns are being raised by the giants that deal in data, the oil of the digital era. These titans—Alphabet (Google’s parent company), Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft—look unstoppable. They are the five most valuable listed firms in the world. Their profits are surging: they collectively racked up over $25bn in net profit in the first quarter of 2017. Amazon captures half of all dollars spent online in America. Google and Facebook accounted for almost all the revenue growth in digital advertising in America last year.

Such dominance has prompted calls for the tech giants to be broken up, as Standard Oil was in the early 20th century. This newspaper has argued against such drastic action in the past. Size alone is not a crime. The giants’ success has benefited consumers. Few want to live without Google’s search engine, Amazon’s one-day delivery or Facebook’s newsfeed. Nor do these firms raise the alarm when standard antitrust tests are applied. Far from gouging consumers, many of their services are free (users pay, in effect, by handing over yet more data). Take account of offline rivals, and their market shares look less worrying. And the emergence of upstarts like Snapchat suggests that new entrants can still make waves.

Our friend M from Canada recently took her IELTS exam and remembered the following details about it:

Listening test

Section 1. A conversation on the phone. The man called a campground to book some equipment for a trip.
Questions: filling in blanks.

Section 2. It was about locations of buildings on a campus map.
Questions: Map labelling.

Section 3. A woman gave a talk on airport rules.
Questions: filling in blanks.

Section 4. Students made a presentation about nurses training.
Questions: multiple choice.

Reading test

Passage 1. Some descriptions of camping places.
Questions: Matching information, True/False/Not Given.

Passage 2. About a famous Egyptian archeologist.

🔴 چه بر سر پروشات و شكوه آمد/ آوردند؟!

اخيرا شايعات زيادي در خصوص چرايي عدم برگزاري آزمون توسط مراكز پروشات و شكوه نقل ميشود. در اين خصوص برخي از موارد را به قطعيت ميتوان گفت و برخي از موارد هنوز جزو احتمالات است!

🔹موارد قطعي:

🔸هيچ تخلفي از سوي مراكز ايراني (پروشات و شكوه) رخ نداده است.

🔸توضيح: شايعاتي در فضاي مجازي از سوي برخي افراد و موسسات سودجو منتشر ميشود كه سنترهاي ايراني به دليل مواردي همچون تقلب هاي سازمان يافته يا فروش سؤال، تعليق شده اند. توجه داشته باشيد كه اگر كوچكترين تخلفي در اين زمينه وجود داشت، قطعا نام موسساتي همچون پروشات و شكوه هنوز جزو موسسات مورد تأييد سازمان سنجش نبودند!

🔸هيچ اختلاف مالي بين مراكز ايراني و IDP كه منجر به تعليق آزمونهاي آنها شود وجود نداشته است.

🔸بر خلاف تمامي شايعات، مجوز مراكز پروشات و شكوه به هيچ عنوان لغو نشده است. با مراجعه به سايت رسمي سازمان سنجش ميتوان نام اين مؤسسات را در ليست مراكز مجاز مشاهده كرد:

🔸پنل ثبت نام مراكز پروشات و شكوه از سوي IDP معلق شده است.

🔸اين اقدام IDP كاملا بدون هماهنگي قبلي با سنترها بوده.

🔸بر اساس اطلاعات موثق، IDP هيچ توضيح رسمي را در خصوص دليل اين تعليق به سنترها نداده است.

🔹موارد احتمالي:

🔸طبق شنيده هاي آفرينش از چندين منبع مختلف، "ابوبكر الماهري" رئيس مركز CES كه برخي از سنترهاي جديد نظير شكوه و پروشات تحت نظر آن بوده اند، فوت كرده اند و IDP نيز به همين دليل تا زمان تعيين تكليفهاي قانوني و مالي، كليه سنترهاي تحت نظر CES را نه تنها در ايران بلكه در سراسر جهان به حالت تعليق درآورده است.

🔹توضيحات تكميلي و مهم آفرينش

گرچه سياست آفرينش در مقابل موسسات برگزاركننده آزمون آيلتس همواره بيطرفانه بوده و تاكنون در مطالب منتشره خود در سايت يا كانال آفرينش، از هرگونه طرفداري يا حمايت از سنترها خودداري كرده است، اما اكنون كه ديگر پروشات آزموني را در ايران برگزار نميكند بايد اذعان كرد با وجود آنكه مؤسسات برگزار كننده آزمون اصلي عملا فرقي در نمره دهي ندارند، اما در حوزه كيفيت خدمات آموزشي به جرأت ميتوان پروشات را برترين مركز برگزاركننده آزمون آيلتس ايران طي سالهاي اخير در ايران ناميد.

پروشات با وجود آنكه تنها ٥ آزمون در طول ٤ ماه اخير برگزار كرد، اما با خلق ايده هاي جديد و به كارگيري تيم مديريتي متخصص و حرفه اي و با بهره مندي از روشهاي علمي روز در روند جذب و برگزاري آزمونهاي خود، عملا وضعيت راكد، بدون رقابت و تك قطبي سالهاي قبل مراكز برگزاري آزمون آيلتس در ايران را متحول كرد و به رقيب بسيار جدي براي سنترهايي چون ايرسافام بدل گشت.

به گونه اي كه پروشات تنها ٤ ماه پس از شروع فعاليت خود در حوزه برگزاري آزمون آيلتس، توانست چيزي در حدود ٢٠٠ داوطلب را در آخرين آزمون خود جذب كند!

در واقع وضعيت كنوني پروشات را كاملا ميتوان با وضعيت بحراني اسنپ در مقابل سازمان تاكسيراني طي سال گذشته مقايسه كرد. كه حتي رانندگان تاكسي هم بر عليه آن در مقابل مجلس تظاهرات كردند! اما خوشبختانه اكنون اسنپ را داريم و بواسطه موجوديت آن، قيمتهاي آژانس به طور محسوس كمتر شده، بر خلاف سابق رانندگان آژانس در اين گرماي تابستان از كولر استفاده ميكنند، سازمان تاكسيراني هم براي رقابت، نرم افزاري مانند اسنپ توليد كرده و از همه مهمتر در اين وانفسا، احترام هم داريم!!!

متأسفانه با گذشت بيش از يك ماه از آخرين آزمون موسساتي مانند پروشات و شكوه، همچنان وضعيت آنها در هاله اي از ابهام قرار دارد. اما اميدواريم فعاليت اين دسته از موسسات خصوصي كه وجود آنها علاوه بر افزايش محسوس كيفيت خدمات آموزشي، نهايتا به نفع داوطلب ختم خواد شد، ادامه دار باشد.

Roshni Haye is a lovely lady in her 20s, from Pakistan (she speaks Urdu as a first language). Her IELTS score – Band 8.5 – put her in the spotlight and gave everyone the opportunity to learn from her experience.

Here is what Roshni thinks can help other test takers to raise their IELTS score:

“I would say familiarising oneself with the paper pattern is a highly essential practice. It was of immense help to me as I had to sit the IELTS examination on a short notice. In this manner, you are able to focus all your energy on what is required of you and practice for it much more efficiently.

Secondly, for the Speaking component, it is crucial for the candidate to remember that their ability to hold up a conversation fluently, is what counts the most. For this, rehearsing either on your own or with a friend, is recommended. Once your fluency improves, your chances of scoring a higher band do as well. However, one must remember that grammar and vocabulary are to be taken into account, too.

Reading and Writing require practice, just as everything else does. So investing in IELTS past papers is of great help. Time yourself and practice as many past papers as you possibly can. This will give you a good understanding of what may be asked of you in the exam, and will build up your speed. Also, reading those passages will further polish your comprehension skills.

For Writing, it is imperative to remember to not deviate from the topic, avoid repetition, and to sound coherent throughout the piece. The points you want to elaborate upon should be lucid in your mind when you start out. Again, practice is of the essence.

Lastly, for the Listening exam, listen to previous recordings or sample recordings available online and see how well you catch on with the accents that may be used. Then listen to a variety of clips or perhaps watch videos or a movie without subtitles and try to catch on (if you feel like you require it).

During the exam, read the questions carefully so you know where every answer goes, when the recording plays and follow the instructions carefully.”
