📌 Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?

While increasing the price of petrol may offer a temporary deterrent to excessive vehicle use, I strongly disagree that it is the most effective solution to combat urban traffic pollution. In my view, a multifaceted approach involving improved public transportation, urban planning, and green technologies would yield more sustainable and equitable results.

It is true that raising fuel prices could initially discourage private car use, thereby reducing emissions. However, such a strategy disproportionately affects low-income individuals who rely on vehicles for their daily commute. This not only leads to social inequality, but also fails to address the root causes of pollution, such as the lack of viable public transit options and inefficient traffic systems. Moreover, higher petrol prices may have limited long-term impact, as individuals gradually adapt or absorb the cost, especially in economically resilient households.

Instead, governments should prioritize investments in public transportation infrastructure. Affordable, reliable, and frequent services can encourage commuters to switch from private cars to buses, trams, and trains. For instance, cities like Tokyo and Copenhagen have demonstrated that high-quality public transport can significantly reduce the number of private vehicles on the road.

In addition, promoting sustainable alternatives such as cycling and walking through dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly urban planning can help mitigate pollution. Furthermore, offering incentives for the use of electric vehicles, including tax breaks and free charging stations, could accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.

To conclude, while increasing petrol prices might play a minor role in curbing traffic pollution, it is neither the most effective nor the most fair strategy. A combination of improved public transport, green incentives, and urban design is essential for achieving long-term environmental and societal benefits.

📌People living in the 21st century have a better life than people who lived in previous centuries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the modern era, it is widely argued that life has significantly improved compared to previous centuries. I strongly agree with this view, as advancements in technology, healthcare, and education have profoundly enhanced the quality of life across the globe.

Firstly, technological innovations have revolutionized the way people live and work. The proliferation of the internet and smartphones has made communication faster, more convenient, and widely accessible. Unlike in past centuries, where messages could take days or even weeks to be delivered, today, information can be exchanged in real time. Moreover, automation and artificial intelligence have improved productivity and reduced the burden of manual labor, allowing individuals to focus on more creative and intellectually rewarding pursuits.

Secondly, the healthcare sector has seen remarkable progress. In contrast to previous centuries, where diseases such as smallpox or tuberculosis claimed millions of lives due to the lack of effective treatments, modern medicine now offers vaccinations, advanced surgical techniques, and life-saving drugs. Life expectancy has increased dramatically, and many diseases that were once fatal are now treatable or even preventable. This development has not only improved individual well-being but also contributed to global economic growth by maintaining a healthier workforce.

Thirdly, access to education has expanded significantly. In earlier times, education was a privilege reserved for the elite, whereas today, it is recognized as a fundamental human right. The widespread availability of formal schooling and online learning platforms has enabled people from diverse backgrounds to acquire knowledge and skills, thus improving their socioeconomic mobility and overall quality of life.

However, it is worth acknowledging that the modern age has also introduced new challenges, such as mental health issues, environmental degradation, and the widening gap between rich and poor. Nevertheless, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, especially when compared to the hardships and limitations faced by individuals in earlier centuries.

In conclusion, although the 21st century is not without its flaws, the unprecedented advancements in key sectors have undeniably led to a better life for the majority of people. Therefore, I firmly believe that life today is significantly better than in the past.

1. What is the weather like in your hometown?

I would say that the weather is very pleasant there, we get mild winters with occasional rain and hot summers moderated by the ocean breezes. It's a great place to live or visit, especially if you like warm temperatures year-round!

2. Do you have a favourite season?

I absolutely love springtime. I used to love summer when I was younger, because it was the longest break we had from school, but I found that as I got older, spring became my favourite season.

3. Why is this season your favourite?

I love spring because the weather is finally starting to get nicer. The flowers start blooming, the sun comes out more often, and it's not as cold outside. It's a great time to go on walks and enjoy nature.

4. How often do you check the weather? Why?

I check the weather every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I'm a very weather-sensitive person and need to be prepared for all kinds of possible conditions. I know that some people find it obsessive, but it's just part of being conscientious and taking care of myself. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

5. Have your plans ever been affected by the weather?

Yes, my plans have been constantly affected by the weather. Most recently, I was supposed to fly to Europe for a vacation, but my flight got cancelled because of the snowstorm that hit the east coast. I had to reschedule my flight and lost a lot of money.
