Quizás creas que para poder jugar necesitas un vocabulario amplio, aunque en realidad no es así. La gran ventaja de Scrabble es que incluye un diccionario.

Luego de algunas partidas, tendrás una mejor idea de la apariencia de las palabras del inglés y empezarás a ver las letras de una forma diferente.

Por ejemplo, imagina que estás jugando y ves las letras R, E, A y D. Ahora te preguntas si en realidad es una palabra, por lo que la buscas en el diccionario. Al final descubres que “read” significa “leer”, así que formas tu palabra y ganas algunos puntos.

Otra ventaja de Scrabble es que no es necesario reunir varios amigos para jugar; solo dos personas son suficientes.

5 MANERAS DE EVITAR DECIR "I'M BUSY"
De vez en cuando sucede que uno quiere decir algo, pero no encuentra la manera correcta o "polite" de decirlo.

Supongamos que una persona está haciendo algo importante cuando viene su jefe a pedirle que haga otra cosa.

Podría decir “estoy ocupado”, pero sonaría un poco brusco.

¿Y si tuviera que decirlo en inglés?

La opción más obvia es “I’m busy”, pero también es poco correcto decir eso.

Entonces, si estamos buscando decir “I’m busy”, ¿qué otra cosa se podría decir?

Aquí te dejo unas opciones por si en algún momento llegas a necesitarlas:

1) Sorry, I've just got to get this done and then I will be with you.
2) I have got my hands full at the moment, could we speak later?
3) I’m really sorry but I'm a little bit busy at the moment.
4) I'm tied up at the moment. Could you come back a little later on?

¿No? Es una palabra fantástica para añadir a tu vocabulario inglés.

Aquí tienes 5 formas diferentes de usarla en inglés:

1) to emphasize: “Hizo hincapié en los requisitos para la promoción” → ”She emphasized the requirements for the promotion.”

2) emphasis: “El hincapié que le puso a sus estudios alegró a su madre.” → “His emphasis on his studies made his mother happy.”

3) stress: “El doctor hizo hincapié en la importancia de una dieta balanceada” → “The doctor stressed the importance of a balanced diet.”

4) to focus on: “Hizo hincapié en las partes vitales del reporte” → “He focused on the vital parts of the report.”

5) highlight: “En el ensayo, traté de hacer hincapié en la necesidad de nuevas medidas de seguridad” “In the essay, I tried to highlight the need for new security measures.”

"team player" - persona que trabaja bien en equipo
"proven" - comprobado
"eager" - ansioso
"committed" - comprometido

"up-to-date" - actualizado
"ownership" - propiedad

Now, for the main course :)

The sentences:

Tengo un alumno introvertido. Muy introvertido. El otro día estábamos en clase y esto es lo que me dijo:

«I’m fine with who I am, but sometimes, especially when I’m at the office with colleagues, I feel like it would be easier if I were a little more talkative. It’s not like I want to be a chatterbox, I don’t want to talk anyone’s ear off, but you know, just a bit more...»

Me quedé impresionado. No por lo que dijo sino por cómo lo dijo, por las expresiones que usó.

→ To be talkative
→ To talk your ears off
→ To be a chatterbox

Todas ellas significan ‘hablar por los codos’, pero con ligeras diferencias: ‘talk your ears off’ puede tener una connotación negativa, mientras que ‘talkative’ es neutro y ‘chatterbox’ más cariñoso.

Y eso nos llevó a seguir hablando sobre el tema y a encontrar otras formas de expresar esta idea en inglés:

👉🏻 talk the hind legs off a donkey
👉🏻 talk till the cows come home (until the cows come home = for a very long time)
👉🏻 talk nineteen to the dozen (can also refer to someone talking very quickly and energetically instead of simply talking too much)

"VERY" is VERY useful but VERY often overused

I'm sure that many of you get international phone calls all the time.

Do you feel comfortable or do you run a mile?

Practice is the best solution if you don't feel very confident but knowing a few key expressions is also very useful!

One of the expressions that can be particularly useful is: "Te paso con mi compañero/a".

So how do you say this in English?

Well, there are a few options:

"I will hand you over to a colleague of mine"
"I will pass you over to a colleague of mine"
"I will put you through to a colleague of mine"

All of these are fine but remember the most important element here is to build your confidence on the phone rather than just handing the call over to someone else.
