Tengo un alumno introvertido. Muy introvertido. El otro día estábamos en clase y esto es lo que me dijo:
«I’m fine with who I am, but sometimes, especially when I’m at the office with colleagues, I feel like it would be easier if I were a little more talkative. It’s not like I want to be a chatterbox, I don’t want to talk anyone’s ear off, but you know, just a bit more...»
Me quedé impresionado. No por lo que dijo sino por cómo lo dijo, por las expresiones que usó.
→ To be talkative
→ To talk your ears off
→ To be a chatterbox
Todas ellas significan ‘hablar por los codos’, pero con ligeras diferencias: ‘talk your ears off’ puede tener una connotación negativa, mientras que ‘talkative’ es neutro y ‘chatterbox’ más cariñoso.
Y eso nos llevó a seguir hablando sobre el tema y a encontrar otras formas de expresar esta idea en inglés:

👉🏻 talk till the cows come home (until the cows come home = for a very long time)

"VERY" is VERY useful but VERY often overused

Practice is the best solution if you don't feel very confident but knowing a few key expressions is also very useful!
One of the expressions that can be particularly useful is: "Te paso con mi compañero/a".
So how do you say this in English?
Well, there are a few options:
"I will hand you over to a colleague of mine"
"I will pass you over to a colleague of mine"
"I will put you through to a colleague of mine"

¿Hay manera de decir “a estas alturas” en inglés?
Hace poco estaba ayudando a un amigo a prepararse para una entrevista que iba a tener en inglés. Estaba nervioso, pero venía bien hasta que le pregunté sobre su experiencia laboral...
Lo que quiso decir fue “En los últimos 5 años trabajé para dos empresas distintas, así que, a estas alturas, diría que tengo mucha experiencia”, pero lo que dijo fue:
“For the past 5 years I’ve worked for two different companies, so, at this heights, I would say I have a lot of experience.”
Por si no lo notaste, su error fue decir “at this heights” como traducción de “a estas alturas”.
Como me parece que es una expresión bastante útil y que vale la pena aprender, aquí abajo te dejo una lista de las distintas frases que se pueden usar en inglés para decir “a estas alturas”.
- at this point
- at this point in time
- at this stage
- at this stage of the game (informal)

En general, muchos hablantes nativos del inglés consideran que es más amable y correcto pedir permiso con la palabra "MAY",:

- May I ask you a few questions?
- May I use your toilet/restroom?
La palabra can se puede usar con la misma intención sin que sea incorrecta gramaticalmente, pero se considera más atinada para consultar sobre una habilidad o capacidad:
