ساختمان و آزمایشگاهی که عصر امروز در دانشگاه شهید بهشتی هدف بمباران قرار گرفت، یکی از مهمترین مراکز پژوهشی فوتونیک در ایران بود. در سالهای اخیر، پژوهشگران این مرکز بر روی روشهای نوین تصویربرداری مغز با استفاده از فناوریهای اپتیکی و فوتونیکی کار میکردند؛ پژوهشهایی که مورد توجه و تحسین جامعه علمی بینالمللی قرار گرفته بود.
پروژههای در حال اجرای این آزمایشگاه میتوانست افق تازهای برای آینده تصویربرداری مغزی در ایران بگشاید. بخش قابل توجهی از تجهیزات این مرکز نیز با حمایت خیرین علمی تهیه شده بود.
تخریب زیرساختهای علمی و غیرنظامی، و همچنین بمباران بیمارستانها، انستیتو پاستور، آزمایشگاهها و دیگر مراکز حیاتی، نقض آشکار اصول بنیادین حقوق بینالملل بشردوستانه است. بر اساس کنوانسیونهای ژنو، بهویژه کنوانسیون چهارم، و پروتکلهای الحاقی آن، حمله به چنین مراکزی میتواند در چارچوب #جنایت_جنگی مورد بررسی قرار گیرد و به هیچ وجه قابل توجیه نیست.

The building and laboratory bombed this evening at Shahid Beheshti University was one of Iran’s most important photonics research centers. In recent years, its researchers had been working on new optical and photonic methods for brain imaging, research that had earned significant recognition and praise from the international scientific community.
The projects underway in this laboratory had the potential to transform the future of brain imaging in Iran. A significant part of the laboratory’s equipment had also been provided through the support of scientific philanthropists.
The destruction of scientific and civilian infrastructure, as well as the bombing of hospitals, the Pasteur Institute, laboratories, and other vital centers, constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law. Under the Geneva Conventions, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, and their Additional Protocols, attacks on such facilities may fall within the scope of #warcrimes and are in no way justifiable.

Ces dernières années, les chercheurs de ce laboratoire travaillaient sur de nouvelles méthodes d’imagerie cérébrale fondées sur des technologies optiques et photoniques, des travaux largement salués par la communauté scientifique internationale.
