During the Israeli attack on Evin Prison, Dr. S. Makarem, an infectious disease specialist, was severely injured. In a note, she wrote that in those critical moments, it was the political prisoners who saved her life:

“The prisoners could have left, but they stayed and saved me. The same ones I had once treated. They pulled me to the corner of a wall—I was half-conscious. They brought me water. They splinted my leg. They were crying and placed me on a stretcher, saying: You’ve always stood by us—we won’t leave you alone.
My thanks to the prisoners who saved me, and may not even know their names and to Dr. Movahedi who did not leave me behind.”

This is more than a moment of humanity.
It is evidence of the profound moral divide between those in chains and the regime that stood watch from the towers yet in the moment of crisis, abandoned the lives inside.

In the time of attack, dignity was behind bars , and tyranny stood in power.
