#Aziz_Qasemzadeh, Teachers' Union Activist, Sentenced to One Year in Prison

The prison sentence of Aziz Qasemzadeh, a teacher and union activist from Gilan, was reduced from two years to one year by Branch 18 of the Gilan Provincial Court of Appeals.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the final sentence for Mr. Qasemzadeh was reduced to one year with the application of sentence aggregation.

This ruling, which was communicated to Mr. Qasemzadeh’s lawyers on May 17th, 2024, names “spreading false information” as his charge.

Although Qasemzadeh’s one-year sentence technically ended in March of last year, he remained in Lakan Prison in Rasht until May 7th, 2024, due to the delayed application of the sentence aggregation law.
