Execution of Four Prisoners in Bandar Abbas, Kerman, Shiraz, and Karaj Prisons

The death sentences of four prisoners convicted of “drug-related offenses” and “premeditated murder” have been carried out in various prisons across Iran.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the executions of four individuals identified as Manouchehr Golabi, Saeed Shokoohi, Rouhollah Moradiani, and Ali Shafiei—convicted on charges of “premeditated murder” and “drug-related offenses”—were carried out on May 3, 4, 5, and 7, 2025, in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Kerman, Shiraz, and Karaj respectively.

Manouchehr Golabi (also known as Balouchkareh), a 50-year-old Iranian Baluch residing in Bandar Abbas, had been arrested seven years ago on drug charges and sentenced to death by the judiciary. His execution took place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in Bandar Abbas Central Prison.

Saeed Shokoohi, a resident of Faryab in Kerman Province, was sentenced to death on a charge of “premeditated murder” and was executed on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Kerman Prison.

Rouhollah Moradiani, a 49-year-old from Kuhdasht, had been sentenced to death by the judiciary on drug charges four years ago. His execution was carried out on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

Ali Shafiei, from Fasa in Fars Province, was sentenced to death four years ago for “premeditated murder.” His execution took place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.

At the time of this report, these executions have not been announced by domestic media or the Iranian judiciary.

Execution of a Kurdish Prisoner in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

The execution of a Kurdish prisoner identified as Mehran Nasri Zar, convicted of intentional killing, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj without prior notice or a final visit with his family.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mehran Nasri Zar, a 30-year-old from Sanandaj and son of Yadollah, was sentenced to death three years ago by the judiciary for alleged intentional killing. On Monday, May 12, 2025, his execution was carried out secretly, without informing his family or allowing a last visit.

Despite efforts by the prisoner’s family to obtain consent from the victim’s family (plaintiffs), they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Execution of Mohammadreza Sabzi, a Juvenile Offender, in Malayer Prison

The execution of Mohammadreza Sabzi, a 20-year-old prisoner convicted of intentional killing, was carried out in Malayer Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mohammadreza Sabzi, a 20-year-old from the city of Aliabad in Malayer County, Hamadan Province, who was sentenced to death four years ago by the judiciary for intentional killing, was executed on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Malayer Prison.

Sabzi had been convicted at the age of 16 for the alleged killing of Reza Farhadi during a confrontation. His death sentence was carried out at age 20.

The prisoner’s family unsuccessfully attempted to obtain consent from the victim’s family (plaintiffs) to halt the execution.

At the time of this report, no official announcement of the execution has been made by state media or the judiciary.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Rouhollah Ghahremani, a 30-year-old man from Tabriz, had been on death row for the past five years following a conviction for premeditated murder. His execution was carried out on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in the central prison of Tabriz.

Efforts by the families of the two inmates involved to obtain a pardon from the plaintiffs (families of the victims) were unsuccessful.

At the time of this report, the execution of these two Turkish (Azeri) prisoners has not been officially confirmed by domestic media or the judiciary.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the execution sentences of two prisoners — Armin Bahrami, imprisoned for the past five years, and Sirous Jafari — who had been sentenced to death by the judiciary on charges of “premeditated murder,” were carried out in Karaj and Dizelabad (Kermanshah) prisons.

The execution of Armin Bahrami was carried out on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Karaj Central Prison (Nedamatgah).
The execution of Sirous Jafari was carried out on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Dizelabad Prison of Kermanshah.

Efforts by the families of these two prisoners to obtain the consent of the victims’ families (to halt the executions) were unsuccessful.
