Peyman (Amin) Farahavar, a poet from Gilan Province, has been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Peyman (Amin) Farahavar, a 36-year-old poet from Rasht, was sentenced by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar, to death on charges of baghi (armed rebellion) and moharebeh (enmity against God), and to 3 months in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” The sentence was officially communicated to him on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, by officials at Lakan Prison in Rasht.
A source close to the family of this political prisoner confirmed the news and said: “The charges against Mr. Farahavar are based on his protest poetry, which focused on social justice, civil rights, and the actions of government-affiliated individuals and institutions involved in the destruction of Gilan’s natural environment.”
The court session was held behind closed doors on Thursday, May 1, 2025, without the presence of a chosen lawyer and without adherence to a transparent judicial process.
Mr. Farahavar was arrested by security forces in September 2024 and transferred to the detention center of the Intelligence Department. After completing his interrogations, he was moved to Lakan Prison in Rasht.
Peyman (Amin) Farahavar is a poet from Gilan and the father of a 10-year-old son. He has a history of previous arrests due to his protest-related activities.
