📢 Today, as Mr. Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs of Iran, speaks before the UN Human Rights Council, we announce our intention to recommend that he - along with several of his colleagues - be #sanctioned for complicity in crimes against humanity and other grave human rights violations.

The Human Rights Council was established to uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights.

Granting a platform to senior representatives of a regime that has been credibly accused of widespread and systematic human rights violations, including the repression of peaceful protest, arbitrary detention, torture, and the execution of political dissidents, risks undermining the Council’s credibility and the trust placed in it by victims worldwide.

#Iran’s record is well documented by successive UN mechanisms, including the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, which has detailed grave violations arising from the state’s violent suppression of peaceful protesters.

Survivors, families of victims, and political prisoners continue to seek #justice and accountability.

Human rights institutions must remain steadfast in their mandate: to protect victims, confront impunity, and uphold international law.

Platforms designed to advance human dignity must not be used, directly or indirectly, to confer legitimacy on those alleged to have so profoundly violated it.
