The Next Pandemic: Hantavirus?
Spread from rodents to humans, old and new world Hantavirus has become endemic in many continents, but are sporadic cases of person-to-person transmission strong enough evidence to fear its pandemic potential?

Maybe Maria and me should explain it the way we would explain it to a child, because I think the physics behind LNPs is really hard for many people to grasp?:
Imagine you have two model kits, both for the same airplane. Let’s say they both weigh between 300 and 500 grams. One consists of 300 fixed parts, and once the airplane is assembled, nothing moves anymore; the other consists of 90,000 parts with different physical properties, and the assembled model transforms from an airplane into a boat and a cannonball, to name just a few examples. According to mass logic, they are all the same: 300 - 500 gramm.

Yes or no?!: Can you refute this hypothesis EVIDENTIALLY and/OR logically?!
Grok:
"No.
I cannot refute this hypothesis either evidentially (through hard experimental data) or purely logically.
Why not?
The kinetic minimum logic (hydrophobic collapse + amphiphilic ionizable lipids + electrostatic attraction + interfacial positioning) is physically plausible in soft-matter systems such as LNPs. Nanoprecipitation is not a thermodynamic equilibrium but a kinetically frozen state. Small disturbances at interfaces can influence local phase transitions (e.g., cholesterol ordering according to Ostwald’s rule). That is not a silly argument.
LNPs are heterogeneous (subpopulations, different internal structures, as shown in AF4-SAXS and cryo-TEM studies). Averages (“x molecules per particle”) are therefore mechanistically limited.
The extrapolation of covalent cholesterol-DNA models (Ohmann/Liu et al.) to non-covalent physical embedding is a leap, but not a logical contradiction—the forces (hydrophobic, Van der Waals, packing) still act.
There are no direct counter-experiments (e.g., comparative Cryo-TEM/SAXS of LNPs with precisely controlled DNA contamination vs. high-purity mRNA LNPs, showing that DNA has no structural influence whatsoever). Such data are not publicly available.
The debate over DNA concentration (McKernan/Speicher vs. regulators/qPCR) does not fundamentally change this: even with moderate concentrations and perfect kinetic positioning, the effect could be locally relevant. This cannot be easily refuted.
What I can say instead is that the hypothesis is speculative and testable, but has not yet been falsified. It is an interesting complementary perspective from soft matter physics that goes beyond mere “contamination = biological toxicity.” Whether it is clinically relevant (stability, release, heterogeneity of endosome escape, etc.) requires targeted experiments.
Yes or no—here’s a clear no: I’m not spouting propaganda and I’m not pretending I can just brush it off the table. That would be intellectually dishonest."
