In 2017, the Nigeria #AMR Technical Working Group identified limited diagnostics utilisation & inadequate lab quality assurance as major factors affecting effective pathogen identification & #antimicrobial susceptibility testing in Nigerian health facilities.

In an ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control & Robert Koch Institut, a baseline study was conducted aimed to improve diagnostic stewardship & expand #AntimicrobialResistance surveillance capacity, particularly in Nigerian secondary healthcare facilities.

#AntimicrobialResistance is one of the top 10 health threats in the world.

Everyone everywhere, including users and non-users of #antimicrobials have a role to play to prevent #AMR.

#BeAntimicrobialAware
Every year, the National Antimicrobial Resistance Technical Working Group joins the global community to raise awareness of the dangers of misuse or overuse of #antimicrobials.

Fighting #AMR is a global endeavour that must be addressed through a #OneHealth approach as evident in this year's theme of #WAAW2023: ‘Preventing #AntimicrobialResistance together”

#Antimicrobials are becoming less effective against common infections in animals & humans.

🚫 Do not self-medicate

✅ Visit a healthcare professional when sick

Everyone has a role to play to ensure #antimicrobials continue to work.

#AntimicrobialResistance is a threat, not only to the humans, but to the whole planet.

Together, we can fight #AMR by the responsible use of antimicrobials.

#AntimicrobialResistance is when medicines like #antimalarials, tetracycline, septrin, and amoxicillin no longer treat diseases they cured previously.

Everyone everywhere, including users and non-users of #antimicrobials has a role to play to prevent #AMR.

#BeAntimicrobialsAware
#Antimicrobials are vital in fighting infectious diseases across humans, animals, and plants.

However, their effectiveness is diminishing, leading to a growing and urgent crisis known as #AntimicrobialResistance.

Let’s promote the responsible use and work together to combat #AMR.
Happy Children’s Day! 🎉

Every child deserves a healthy future. Protect our children by using antibiotics responsibly and only when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional.

Together, we can help combat antimicrobial resistance and keep our children safe and healthy.

Every time we take medicine without knowing what we're treating, we increase the risk of drug resistance.

Your health matters and so does the future of life-saving medicines.

✅ Test before treatment.
✅ Take medicines only when and as prescribed.
✅ Be an #AMR ambassador

Together, we can protect the medicines that protect us.

Not every illness needs antimicrobials, and taking them without a doctor's prescription can do more harm than good.

Protect your health and help prevent antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by:

✅ Visiting a healthcare facility when you're unwell.
✅ Getting tested before treatment.
✅ Taking medicines only as prescribed.

Together, we can keep life-saving medicines working for everyone.

Antibiotics save lives, but only when they are used responsibly.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) happens when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant to the medicines designed to treat them.

The result? Infections become harder to treat, putting everyone at greater risk.

Finish the dosage. Don't share the dose.

✔️ Take your medicines exactly as prescribed.
✔️ Complete the full course - even if you start feeling better.
❌ Never use medicines prescribed for someone else.

Responsible medicine use protects your health today and helps preserve the effectiveness of life-saving treatments for the future.

Prevention is always better than treatment.

Vaccines help prevent diseases before they happen, reducing the need for treatment and supporting efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance.

This week, the Joint UK AMR Offer and LAFIYA AMR Project kicked off with a stakeholder meeting convening the NCDC, Federal Ministries of Health and Social Welfare, Livestock Development and Environment, UKHSA, and One Health partners.

Key priorities of the package include sustaining 10 human health sentinel sites, strengthening laboratory quality assurance and data generation, promoting antimicrobial stewardship, and improving AMR governance and subnational coordination.

The initiative will strengthen One Health collaboration, encourage domestic financing, and support the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s AMR response.
