🍕 Ten years ago, on May 22, 2010 Bitcoin for the first time was used to buy something material. Las Vegas programmer Laszlo Hanyecz agreed to pay 10,000 Bitcoins for two delivered Papa John's pizzas.
In fact, he posted an offer on Bitcointalk saying 'Pizza for Bitcoins?' asking to exchange 10K of the digital coin for two large margaritas. Jeremy Sturdivant was the one to assist. He paid to the pizzamakers in fiat money and took BTCs in exchange (here the historical transaction).
Bitcoin enthusiasts have launched the Bitcoin Pizza Index that keeps a track of those 'gold' pizzas at current market prices. You can see that as of today, the Laszlo's dinner is worth $93.7 million, or equals to €85.4 million, or 1.7 kg of gold, or 169 metric tons of silver.
