متن کامل پیام سیدمحمدخاتمی به مناسبت ثبت #یزد به عنوان #میراث_جهانی توسط #یونسکو بدین شرح است:
به نام خداوند که زیباست و دوستدار زیبایی
ثبت «یزد» در یونسکو به عنوان میراث جهانی رویدادی است مهم و از دست اندرکاران این امر طی سالیان گذشته در یزد و ایران و اینک در یونسکو باید سپاسگزاری کرد.
«یزد» آیینه فرهنگ شکوهمند ایرانی اسلامی و فرآورده هوشمندی، ایمان، نجابت و سخت‌کوشی مردمی است که زیبایی و فضیلت را در لحظه لحظه زندگی خود و از جمله در معماری ممتاز این سامان تجربه کرده اند.
رام کردن «کویر»، برآوردن زندگی از متن طبیعت سرکش و تبدیل خشکی و خشونت آن به لطافت سرشار از فضایل انسانی و اخلاقی، در زمین بودن و آسمانی زیستن؛ هنری است که از همه مردمان بر نمی آید و یزدی به‌خوبی این هنر را نشان داده است.
همزیستی مسالمت‌آمیز و مهربانانه پیروان آیین‌ها و مسلک‌های گوناگون و تلاش مشترک برای خوب زندگی کردن، با ابتکار شگفت انگیز، هوای لطیف را از آسمان با بادگیرهایی که نمادهای برجسته هنری و فنی مستند فرود آوردن و آب، مایه زندگی را از ژرفای زمین (با کاریز) برآوردن، خشونت کویر را به لطافت زندگی آمیخته با مدارا و رواداری مبدل کردن، عشق به حقیقت مطلق و پرستش پروردگار و زیبایی را برای همگان خواستن، نشان دادن چهره زیبا و مهربان اسلام و ایران و گفتگو، از جمله گفتگو میان تمدن ها را به جای ستیز تمدن‌ها و جنگ و افراط و خشونت نشاندن و ... این است حقیقتی که از جمله در زندگی ممتاز تاریخی یزد و یزدی نمایان است.
ثبت دیرهنگام، ولی به‌جای شهر عزیز «یزد» در یونسکو به عنوان میراث جهانی بر یزدی و ایرانی مبارک باد.

In the Name of God
Inscription of #Yazd by #UNESCO as #worldheritage is indeed an important event which has been achieved due to immense endeavors spared by the authorities in Yazd, as well as all over Iran and now in UNESCO, that shall be appreciated eminently.
Yazd represents the glorious Iranian Islamic Culture and is indeed the accomplishment of elegance, belief, chastity and diligence of people who adore and experience, beauty and virtue in each and every moment of their lives, as well as in their outstanding architecture.
Taming the "dessert" and bringing life out of unyielding nature and turning dry, fierce land into subtlety full of human virtues and ethics, as if they are living in heavens while they dwell on earth, is indeed an art which is not fulfilled by many, while people of Yazd enjoy having this artistic exclusivity.
Peaceful and compassionate coexistence among the followers of various beliefs and religions, as well as their common attempt to experience a quality lifestyle is well represented in their outstanding innovation, bringing in the gentle air out of the skies into the wind towers, which are eminent symbols of artisanship. They also bring up water out of deep lands through qanats which duly blends the violence of dessert with gentleness of life, embracing tolerance, sparing love to absolute truth, worshipping God while prescribing beauty for all, presenting the kind, gentle appearance of Islam, Iran and dialogue among civilizations, instead of war of civilizations, belligerence, extremism and violence . . . and all this is the truth that lies beneath the eminent historical lifestyle of Yazd and their people.
Congratulations to all Iranians, particularly people of Yazd on the occasion of inscription of the dearly city of Yazd as world heritage, though a bit late but properly taken place.
