For those who doesn't know: What is Eid?
Eid is the name for two occasions in Muslim culture in which copious celebration and prayer takes place over a period of days.
Eid al-Fitr most recently took place in May and was marked by a period of fasting for all Muslims.
Eid al-Fitr saw all those able to fast do so and the festival of Ramadan took place in celebration of their efforts, which saw feasting and celebration en masse.
Both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, were founded by the Prophet Mohammed, following his migration from the holy city Mecca.
Eid al-Adha, coming this week, is a celebration of following the word of God (Allah).
Centred around the prophet Ibrahim, Muslims celebrate Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his most treasured possession (his son) at the word of the lord.
As Ibrahim was about to do so, God replaced his son with a goat, which was sacrificed in his stead.
For Eid al-Adha every year, the act is celebrated by sacrificing cattle and livestock, and the meat divided between friends, neighbours and the poor.
