​​Salon urbain de Douala: nouvelles expériences citadines

De jeunes plasticiens primés participeront au festival prévu le mois prochain dans la cité économique.

Boris Anje Tabufor. Godmark Fannyu. Abdias Ngateu. Ces trois gagnants, par ordre numérique, du prix Pascale Marthine Tayou, lors du concours d’art plastique « Jeunes Espoirs 2017 », prendront part au festival d’art public Salon urbain de Douala (SUD) prévu du 5 au 10 décembre 2017.

Ils pourront ainsi participer à l’atelier Artwork qui devrait être animé par Simon Njami. Ils côtoieront également les seize artistes seniors qui vont investir Douala avec 19 œuvres d’art public. Et certains de ces seniors, au-delà du SUD, les recevront en stages afin de mûrir leur démarche.

Une belle occasion pour Boris Anje et Godmark Fannyu, tous deux de Buea, dans la région du Sud-Ouest, dont l’univers de travail correspond au thème de ce Salon Urbain 2017 : « La place de l’humain ». Le premier a pu remporter le concours grâce à son œuvre « The Supermarket » sur le trafic des organes humains.

Pendant que l’autre montait sur la deuxième marche avec son tableau « Mental Slavery of an albino in mental cruelty » sur la discrimination et la stigmatisation des personnes atteintes d’albinisme. « J’aime travailler sur les questions humaines. Changer la mentalité des gens est la meilleure chose qu’un artiste peut faire », explique-t-il.

Cette nécessité de laisser la jeunesse s’exprimer et s’interroger sur sa société est le but principal de cette édition du SUD. Et comme l’explique Marilyn Douala Bell, présidente de l’association Doual’art : « Nous avons pensé qu’il est important d’élargir le thème sur la place de l’humain, une discussion comme celle-là sur tout le territoire pour que tous les regards puissent converger vers Douala ».

C’est dans ce sens que pour le concours d’art plastique, 128 œuvres de 65 jeunes ont été proposées à travers le pays et 76 ont été retenues pour des expositions locales à Yaoundé, Mbalmayo, Maroua, Foumban, Buea, Douala, etc. Et pour la dernière ligne droite avant la proclamation des résultats, 29 tableaux ont été exposés à Doual’art.

Evodoula: sous le signe de la paix

L’An 35 du Renouveau, célébré lundi dernier dans la section RDPC Lekié Ouest II.

Ils sont sortis par centaines, ces militants de la section du Rassemblement démocratique du peuple camerounais (RDPC) Lekié Ouest II. Ils ont fait bloc à l’esplanade de la mairie d’Evodoula, pour exalter la paix et l’unité nationale, à l’occasion de la célébration de l’An 35 du Renouveau lundi dernier.

C’est autour d’Armand Joachim Ongolo, président de la section RDPC Lekié Ouest II et maire de la commune d’Evodoula, que les militants ont communié. Dans un contexte socio-politique particulier (crise dans les régions du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest, guerre contre Boko Haram, insécurité dans la région de l’Est).

Cette année, le RDPC a choisi un thème proche de ces événements afin de mettre en relief les 35 ans du Renouveau. A Evodoula, les populations sont conscientes du fait que malgré ces menaces, « Paul Biya veille », a lancé le président de la section RDPC Lekié Ouest II.

Au cours de ce meeting, rigueur et moralisation, socle de la politique du Renouveau, ont été sur les lèvres des différents orateurs. Pour Armand Joachim Ongolo, l’esprit camerounais est l’esprit du Renouveau. « Cet anniversaire appelle à la vigilance en vue de barrer la voie aux fauteurs de troubles.

Il est urgent de faire bloc derrière Paul Biya pour consolider la paix et l’unité», a-t-il indiqué. Ces messages de stabilité ont aussi été clamés par les présidents des sections OFRDPC et OJRDPC de la Lekié Ouest II. Une marche de soutien a bouclé la célébration à Evodoula.

Renouveau an 35: la Mvila-Centre réitère son soutien

L’anniversaire de l’accession de Paul Biya à la magistrature suprême a été l’occasion d’un appel à une nouvelle candidature.

La prière œcuménique d’ouverture de la cérémonie anniversaire a permis aux militants du Rassemblement démocratique du peuple camerounais (Rdpc) de rendre grâce au Très Haut pour ce grand moment.

Un moment de célébration qui a permis tour à tour aux différents responsables de dire « Bon anniversaire » à l’homme du 06 novembre 1982. Un moment qui a également permis à chacun de faire un bilan des 35 années de Paul Biya à la magistrature suprême.

Ainsi, pour Thérèse Félicité Mendo, présidente de la section Ojrdpc Mvila-Centre 2, c’est une satisfaction de la jeunesse. C’est avec Paul Biya que les jeunes aspirent aujourd’hui à la professionnalisation de l’enseignement supérieur et à la formation aux métiers de base.

C’est l’espoir de cette jeunesse qui l’invite à continuer dans la même logique, dans la consolidation de l’unité du Cameroun, de la paix sans laquelle aucun développement n’est possible.

C’est dans cette lancée qu’Eugène Michel Bilounga, membre du bureau de la section, voit, en ce jour anniversaire, un grand symbole qui constitue pour les Camerounais une particularité à faire des envieux. Paul Biya est un symbole de paix, d’intégration nationale et de développement économique.


C’est donc un mariage de cœur et de raison : C’est lui qui a su développer « l’esprit camerounais à travers le Renouveau national ». Ce qui donne à tous la fierté d’appartenir à un Cameroun un et Indivisible.

Cet avis est partagé par Raymond Mbita Mvaebeme, président de la section Mvila-Centre 2. C’est grâce à cet esprit camerounais, incarné par Paul Biya, que le Cameroun poursuit, avec courage et détermination, la construction d’un modèle de vivre ensemble.

Manyu CPDM Celebrates Development

The most recent celebration projects is the tarred Kumba-Mamfe-Ekok Corridor.

Militants and sympathizers of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Manyu Division have re-affirmed their total support for President Paul Biya by calling on him to stand as their natural candidate in 2018 Presidential elections.

This was contained in the numerous speeches presented by the four CPDM Section Presidents of the Manyu I,II,III,IV and the keynote address of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Special Duties and Leader of the CPDM Permanent Delegation for Manyu,Victor Mengot Arrey Ngongho, during the celebration of the 35th anniversary of President Paul Biya accession to power.

The day that was celebrated under the theme;"Together let us contribute towards strengthening the Cameroon spirit for the consolidation of peace, national unity and integrity.” Present for the occasion was the Manyu administration led by its SDO, Oum II Joseph, traditional rulers external and internal elite of the Division.

According to Minister Mengot, there are so many reasons for celebrating the 35 years of President Paul Biya in Manyu Division. The first being the achievements of the New Deal Government which include the tarring of the Kumba-Mamfe-Bamenda-Ekok corridor, the peace that reign throughout the nation, the joy of belonging to a one and indivisible Cameroon and the appointment of Manyu sons and daughters in key positions in government.

He said the celebration is coming at a time when the country for close to one year has been going through some sociopolitical challenges in the North West and South West Region. Again it is coming at a crucial moment as the country is preparing for election challenges next year 2018.

.With one voice all the speakers appealed to parents to send their children to school in other to prevent the high rate of pregnancies, drug abuse ,juvenile delinquency, alcohol consumption amongst their children who are staying out of school.

CONAC: Authorities React To Circulating False Information

Following is a press release from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC)

“Since November 08, 2017, information circulating in the social media and relayed by some media houses states that “the director of the Anti-Corruption team of the South region in Ebolowa, was arrested in possession of a huge sum of money”.

The Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon informs the public that this information is false. It was mounted using pictures from the internet to discredit the efforts made by Cameroon to fight against corruption and tarnish the image of anti-corruption structures of the country, particularly that of CONAC.

In the images that are circulating, the boxes of money are the fruits of a seizure by the Federal Police of Brazil in September 2017, an amount of 16.4 million dollars. In the same light, it is worth nothing that the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon does not have regional branches. The Headquarters and offices of the institution are located in Yaounde, at the Conference Centre.

The Chairman of CONAC reassures Cameroonians that under the permanent impulse of the Head of State, the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon will continue, through its action to prevent and investigate corrupt practices, to work for a Cameroon where integrity will constitute a watchword to every citizen”.

Le communiqué de presse du MINDEF parvenu à notre Rédaction

Le ministre délégué à la présidence chargé de la Défense a le regret d’annoncer les meurtres barbares de 03 gendarmes engagés dans les opérations de rétablissement et de maintien de l’ordre dans la région du Nord-Ouest, froidement assassinés par des terroristes à l’aide d’armes de guerre.

Il s’agit de :
🔸Gendarme-major DJONLAY Bienvenu, abattu le 6 novembre 2017 à Jakiri, département du Bui, alors qu’il pourchassait avec ses camarades des terroristes en cagoule qui tentaient d’incendier le lycée technique de céans ;
🔸 Maréchal-des-logis-chef HINMA René, abattu dans la nuit du 7 au 8 novembre 2017 à 23 heures trente minutes, à un barrage mixte à Bafut, département de la Mezam ;
🔸 L’élève-gendarme SALI David, tué d’une balle le 8 novembre 2017 à 2 heures du matin, alors qu’il était de garde au lycée de Bayelle à Bamenda, chef-lieu de la région du Nord-Ouest.

Ces gendarmes sont victimes de leur courage, leur engagement et de leur loyauté envers la Patrie.

Le ministre délégué à la présidence chargé de la Défense transmet aux familles des défunts, morts en service commandé, les profondes condoléances du chef de l’Etat, chef des armées.

Les obsèques des intéressés auront lieu incessamment ; les gendarmes assassinés recevront à cette occasion les honneurs réservés aux morts militaires sur le champ de bataille. Le programme des obsèques sera publié en temps opportun.

Kribi: Les grands projets du Renouveau salués

Les populations de Kribi ont remercié le président Paul Biya pour les réalisations faites dans la cité balnéaire.

Deux tableaux, une même réalité. Kribi, vitrine des grands projets structurants pour l’émergence, se veut être le rempart des idéaux du Renouveau et le repère du vivre-ensemble.

Acte 1. Kribi 1er. Louis Jacques Mazo, représentant du Comité central du RDPC et Serge Bénaé, le président de la section Océan-Sud I, ont rappelé aux militants que, plus qu’ailleurs, Kribi, qui abrite la Centrale à gaz, le terminal électrique, l’autoroute, le pipeline, le port et tous les autres grandes industries en devenir, mesure les enjeux, les acquis et les espoirs du Renouveau.

En masse, les populations, parmi les 300 militants des partis d’opposition qui ont ralliés les rangs du RDPC, sont venues pour demander à Paul Biya de parachever les œuvres, peu importe le temps, pour l’émergence du Cameroun.

A la section Océan-Sud II, le sénateur Grégoire Mba Mba, délégué par le Comité central salue les grandes réalisations du président Paul Biya. Dans une parfaite harmonie avec la communauté des régions du Sud-Ouest et du Nord-Ouest vivant à Kribi, Grégoire Mba Mba et le ministre Jules Doret Ndongo ont chanté et dansé pour Paul Biya qui va de victoires en victoires.

« L’homme du Renouveau est le symbole de notre unité », ont-ils dit. Pour les échéances électorales futures, le ministre Jules Doret Ndongo a appelé les militants à maintenir la coexistence pacifique entre les communautés et, surtout à être prêts pour d’autres victoires. « Le RDPC doit encore triompher à Kribi avec son champion Paul Biya », conclut-il.

Diplomatie: le Minrex invité par son homologue américain

Courrier transmis hier à Lejeune Mbella Mbella par le chargé d’Affaires a.i de l’ambassade des Etats-Unis d’Amérique, Matthew Smith.

Le ministre des Relations extérieures (Minrex), Lejeune Mbella Mbella est invité vendredi 17 novembre 2017 aux Etats-Unis. L’invitation de son homologue, Rex W. Tillerson, secrétaire d’Etat américain, lui a été remise hier, jeudi 9 novembre.

C’était au cours d’une audience qu’il a accordée au chargé d’affaires a.i de l’ambassade des Etats-Unis à Yaoundé, Matthew Smith. A en croire le diplomate américain, le Minrex devra participer à des échanges de haut-niveau.

« Au menu de ces assises, questions de sécurité, commerce et de gouvernance », souligne Matthew Smith. L’hôte du Minrex ajoute que « cette réunion est une opportunité pour le Cameroun de dire en ses propres termes ses réalisations et ses défis dans les domaines portés à l’ordre du jour ».

Ce sera aussi l’occasion pour le secrétaire d’Etat, Rex W. Tillerson, de se faire une idée précise de ce qui se passe au Cameroun et dans différents autres pays africains. En effet, 34 autres ministres en charge de la diplomatie de leur pays sont aussi invités aux Etats-Unis.

Par ailleurs, en fin d’après-midi le Minrex a reçu le nouveau haut-commissaire désigné de l’Inde. S.E Naga Bushana Reddy a présenté les copies figurées des lettres de créance qui l’accréditent au Cameroun. Il est en poste depuis le 24 juin 2016 à Abuja au Nigeria, siège de son haut-commissariat.

PM Yang Encourages Budding Entrepreneur

Boniface Abayo Dashaco occupied the ninth position in the 2017 ranking of the French body, Institut Choiseul for International Politics and Geo-economics.

Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang on November 9, 2017 received, encouraged and promised availability of assistance to the young Cameroonian entrepreneur, Boniface Abayo Dashaco.

The 40 –year-old businessman occupied the ninth position in the ranking of 100 top African young entrepreneurs for 2017 done by the French think-tank body, Institut Choiseul for International Politics and Geo-economics.

The institute is an independent research centre that analyses international relations, economic and political strategies, as well as international cultures and contributes to the massive body of international relations studies by examining the new balance of global power prevalent in the post-Cold War era from a geo-economics perspective.

After the talks with the Prime Minister, Mr Abayo Dashaco told the press that his recognition by the French think-tank group is owing to the business enterprise, African Centre for Marketing, Advertising and Research (ACMAR) media group to which he is chairman. ACMAR, he said, is present in 22 African countries with more than 1,000 direct jobs.

He has been in business for 14 years. Recognition for his entrepreneurship by the French institute has been growing over the years. Reports say that in 2014, he was nominated as an “African leader of tomorrow” by Institut Choiseul for International Politics and Geo-economics as a person below the age of 40 who has impacted society. In October 2016, he was listed 36 on the list of top 100 African managers below the age of 40 years old by Institut Choiseul for International Politics and Geo-economics.

Boniface Abayo Dashaco plans to expand his business to many more countries in Africa and extend to America and Europe. Besides, operating at the sector of financial structures, he plans to open media houses and diversity activities. He expressed the hope that with the help of government, he would employ some 25,000 youths.

Murdered Gendarmes: Military Honours Announced

Below is a statement issued by the Minister Delegate in charge of Defense.

“The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence regretfully announces with deep sorrow the barbaric murder of 03 gendarmes, committed in operations to restore and maintain public order in the North West Region, cold-bloodedly assassinated by terrorists with weapons of war.

They are:
🔸 Gendarme-major Djonlay Bienvenu, killed on 6th November 2017 in Jakiri, Bui Division, while hunting down with his comrades, hooded terrorists who attempted to set ablaze the Government Technical School of that locality;
🔸 Maréchal-des-Logis-chef Hinma René, killed in the night of 7 breaking 8 November 2017 at 11:30 pm, at a joint check-point in Bafut, Mezam Division;
🔸 Elève-gendarme Sali David, killed by bullet while on duty at the Bayelle Government School, in Bamenda, Capital of the North-West Region.

These Gendarmes lost their lives because of their courage, commitment and loyalty to the fatherland. The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense extends to families of the deceased who died on duty, the sincere condolences of the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The funeral service will take place soon; on this occasion, the deceased Gendarmes will receive military honours due for soldiers fallen on the battlefield. The funeral programme will be made available in due time.”

Hon. Monjowa Lifaka: CPA Chairperson For Next Three Years

The Deputy Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly was elected on November 7, 2017
in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Cameroon has once more scored a significant international success and recognition as the Deputy Speaker of the country’s National Assembly, Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka was elected the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) International Executive Committee for the next three years. This was during the 63rd CPA General Assembly that held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on November 7, 2017.

She had a landslide victory scoring 107 votes against 70 votes for the Right Honourable Niki Rattlen Speaker of the Cooks Island and 15 votes for the Right Honourable Shirley Osborne, Speaker of Montserrat. Hon. Lifaka succeeds the outgoing CPA President and Chairperson of the CPA International Executive Committee, Hon. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP and Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh.

The rise of the Hon. Monjowa Lifaka to the position of CPA Chairperson is not a surprise. She has been engaged in CPA since 2007, attending regional and international meetings. She held the position of the Vice Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee from 2016-2017 and Alternate President of the CPA during the hosting of the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Yaounde.

Hon. Monjowa Lifaka already has a rich experience at Cameroon’s National Assembly. She entered the House in 2002, following a 21-year career as a civil servant. She has been Deputy House Speaker since 2009. Hon. Monjowa Lifaka has also been a member of Standing Committees in the National Assembly such as Finance and Budget and Constitutional Laws. She has also been Vice President of the Association of African Female Ministers and Parliamentarians.

Meurtre des forces de défense: le tollé général

Depuis lundi dernier, l’on observe une escalade dans la situation qui prévaut dans les régions du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest, avec des attaques de plus en plus ciblées contre des éléments des forces de défense et de sécurité. Des personnels de la gendarmerie nationale y ont laissé leurs vies, du fait d’individus armés.

Ces actes s’inscrivent dans la continuité de ceux perpétrés quelques semaines auparavant et qui se sont caractérisés par la pose de bombes de fabrication artisanale dans les villes de Bamenda et de Douala. Aujourd’hui, ces hors-la-loi sont passés à une autre étape. Celle qui consiste à s’attaquer, avec des armes de guerre aux éléments des forces de défense et de sécurité.

Face à cette dérive, les autorités administratives locales ont pris des mesures de restriction des mouvements des personnes, des véhicules et des engins à deux roues. Une montée de la violence qui est condamnée par les différentes franges de la population camerounaise.

Inadmissible Lawlessness!

Observers of the ongoing socio-political situation in the country, especially the state of affairs in the two Anglophone regions, are certainly at a loss with the direction the crisis is taking. From a simple industrial action of English-speaking teachers and Common Law Lawyers to claims on the form of the State by political opportunists, the crisis has gone deadly. Regrettably, forces of law and order appear to be the target of lawbreakers now.

Three gendarmerie officers have lost their lives in a space of three days in gruesome moves perpetrated by some of the people whose security the officers supposedly worked for. Before dust could settle on the killing of a gendarme officer in Jakiri by still-to-be identified assailants on November 6, Bamenda was on the news with the death of two gendarmes in the North West Regional capital.

While that of Jakiri was struggling to pre-empt the burning of the locality’s Technical High School by “a group of ten individuals armed with slingshots and machetes,” going by a communiqué from the Minister of Communication, those in Bamenda perished in separate areas under unclear circumstances as attested by another statement issued yesterday 9 November, 2017 by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence. Field reports say the gendarme victims were on duty at the Security Check Point on the Bamenda-Bafut highway and in the neighbourhood of Bayelle, Bamenda III Sub Division when the attackers stroke.

Similarity in the two incidences is undoubtedly the surge in lawlessness and the urge to kill and destroy. If not, what could have been the essence of assailants in Jakiri entering into the school campus to expel teachers and students who were carrying on their normal classes? Or, worse still, unidentified men on motorcycles attacking a Mixed Gendarme and Police Control team on the Bamenda-Bafut highway and in the Bayelle neighbourhood. Such acts are only instances that could lead to chaos and lawlessness that end up benefitting no one.

No argument could justify such behaviour in a civilised society. Even if there is a feeling of frustration and probably a decision to vent the anger on law enforcement officers who constantly thwart the reign of terror that was increasingly gaining grounds in the two English-speaking parts of the country, the approach will certainly be the wrong one. Simply put, it is disturbing indeed!

As tongues wag on the rationale behind such a bestial behaviour, one thing stands out! Cameroon is a State of law and all who live therein, as a matter of fact, should live by the law. The noticeable lawlessness is, to say the least, unacceptable. It is not in intimidation, killing and destruction that a problem would be solved. Radicalism should be out of place here!

Irrespective of who did what, where and how, there is an urgent need for people to allow the force of argument to prevail and not the argument of force as the present scenario suggests. Common knowledge teaches that two wrongs do not make a right. Copying a jungle-like life from the forest, meant for animals, is regrettable in a situation involving human beings wherein mutual respect is much clamoured for.
