Urgent int’l investigation needed to probe Israeli war crimes after Palestinian civilians buried alive at Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital

Geneva - The Israeli army has reportedly buried wounded Palestinian civilians alive outside of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip’s northern town of Beit Lahia, after nine consecutive days of total siege, raids, and horrifying atrocities in the area. An independent international investigation must be opened into these reports, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a press release issued on Saturday.

Before they left the medical facility this morning, Israeli bulldozers buried Palestinian civilians alive in the hospital courtyard, according to testimonies the Geneva-based organisation received from media and medical crews on the ground. At least one of the bodies could be seen amid the sand piles, witnesses said, confirming that the victim was injured before being buried and killed.

“New Guantánamo”: Euro-Med Monitor calls for international probe into Israel’s torture and murder of Gaza detainees

Geneva - An impartial and urgent investigation is needed to probe the Israeli army’s torture and murder of Palestinian civilians detained in different areas of the Gaza Strip, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued on Monday.

Testimonies gathered by Euro-Med Monitor teams confirm reports published by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper about Israeli field executions of Gazan detainees. Additional detainees have died after being subjected to extreme torture and mistreatment in the “Sde Teman” Israeli army camp, located between Beersheba and Gaza.

Seventy-one per cent of Gaza’s population experiences extreme hunger, Euro-Med Monitor study says

Geneva - Over 71% of participants in a study conducted in the Gaza Strip by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said that they suffer from extreme hunger, corroborating accusations that Israel uses starvation to punish Palestinian civilians.

Euro-Med Monitor conducted an analytical study that included a sample of 1,200 people in the Gaza Strip in order to ascertain the impact of the humanitarian crisis that Gazans are experiencing in the midst of Israel’s ongoing Israeli genocidal war, which began on 7 October.

Following shocking testimonies of Israeli killings and field executions of Palestinians in Gaza, the Red Cross must step up to fulfill its obligations

Geneva - Israeli army forces have carried out field executions against civilians during raids on Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip, according to shocking testimonies received by the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.

Euro-Med Monitor obtained horrific testimonies of Israeli army forces raiding the Anan family’s home in central Gaza City on Tuesday 19 December. The Israeli forces reportedly opened fire at multiple young men inside the house, for no apparent reason and with no resistance from the victims, and gathered multiple women in a single room before firing a number of missiles, injuring many of them.

Hunger, lack of medical care claim lives of dozens of people in northern Gaza

Geneva - Thousands of wounded and sick people are facing slow death in the Gaza Strip due to hunger or a lack of basic medical care, as most hospitals in the enclave are out of service, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Thursday.

Euro-Med Monitor reported the deaths of scores of sick and injured individuals, including those in hospitals and clinics, as a result of inadequate medical care. It also documented a significant number of others who have died inside their homes, unable to be moved to hospitals, either because none existed in their area—as is currently the case north of Gaza City—or because existing facilities were taken over during Israeli ground incursions.

Shocking testimonies reveal the execution of dozens of elderly people by Israeli army in the Gaza Strip

Geneva - The Israeli army has executed dozens of elderly Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in direct shooting operations, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued Friday. This incredibly vulnerable group of civilians is suffering twice over, said the rights organisation, as Israel has turned all people in the Strip into targets since the 7 October start of its ongoing genocide against Palestinians there.

Euro-Med Monitor said that 1,049 elderly men and women have been killed during the 76-day genocide—about 1% of the estimated 107,000 elderly people who live in the Gaza Strip, and 3.9% of all Palestinian deaths during the aggression. The majority of them were crushed to death under the debris of their homes or the shelter centres where they sought safety after Israeli aircraft bombed their homes, or while being forced to seek basic necessities in the streets and marketplaces. Alarmingly, however, dozens were targeted in killings and field executions.

Euro-Med launched an urgent appeal for the immediate formation of an international delegation to visit Israeli prisons and detention camps, where more than 8,000 Palestinian detainees are currently held, as evidence mounts of widespread violations of mass arrests, forced disappearances, torture, ill-treatment and even killings.
In a formal letter addressed jointly to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, Euro-Med Monitor urged to take prompt action to disclose the fate and detention conditions of Palestinian detainees, particularly those from the Gaza Strip.

Israel required by law to reveal the fate of dozens of women arrested in Gaza, intl. community must investigate images and claims of torture, harassment

Geneva – Israel is obligated to disclose the whereabouts of the nearly 3,000 Palestinian civilians—including children as well as dozens of women—it has kidnapped from homes and shelter centres, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement urging the international community to put pressure on Israel to end its policy of enforced disappearance.

According to information received by Euro-Med Monitor, over the past few days the Israeli army has been detaining hundreds of Palestinians in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood in Gaza City. Among them are dozens of women who were taken to Yarmouk Stadium, where they had their veils removed and were searched by soldiers. Many of them also endured explicit abuse, beatings, and harassment.

Nearly 30,000 Palestinians killed during 82-day Israeli genocide in Gaza

The death toll of Israel’s gory genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has climbed to approximately 30,000 victims, according to the latest reports released by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.

As of Tuesday 26 December, 29,124 Palestinians had been killed, the human rights organisation said. The majority of those killed in the Israeli air and artillery attacks on the Gaza Strip were civilians, including 11,422 children, 5,822 women, 481 health personnel, and 101 journalists.

Meanwhile, 56,122 Palestinians have been injured, with hundreds of them being critically wounded, said Euro-Med Monitor. This number includes thousands of victims who are still stuck under the rubble of buildings, while hundreds more remain uncounted, but are likely either trapped under rubble or injured in the streets.

A brief statement from Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor:

Israeli institutions continue to launch a widespread incitement and distortion campaign against Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, questioning the impartiality and professionalism of its work documenting the large-scale crimes committed by the Israeli military in its ongoing genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since 7 October. Israel has long obstructed the work of many international and local human rights organisations operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and in the Gaza Strip in particular, by imposing broad restrictions on field documentation operations and freedom of movement, and via its widespread targeting of field teams as well as prevention of UN teams and international committees from investigating possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Euro-Med Monitor strongly condemns the latest Israeli incitement campaign that has emerged, and which the international community has allowed to flourish due to systematic Israeli impunity. Israel must not be allowed to prevent documentation of its violations, said the Geneva-based human rights organisation, calling for the protection of its field crews and researchers—plus all employees of other human rights organisations in the region—from direct targeting, prosecution, and arrest.

Palestinian children face unknown fate after being kidnapped from Gaza by Israeli army

Geneva - The Israeli army has abducted Palestinian children and transferred them out of the Gaza Strip, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said, as part of its genocide against Gazans that has been ongoing since 7 October. The rights group called on Israel to return the children to their parents.

In light of the horrific crime of kidnapping children, as well as the recent mysterious disappearance of hundreds of Palestinian detainees from the Strip, Euro-Med Monitor stressed that the international community must bear its responsibilities and apply pressure to Israel in order to ensure the safe return of all victims.

Israel intensifies its forced displacement campaign in Gaza, targets shelter centres housing refugees

Geneva – Israel’s intensification of its military assaults on the Gaza Strip’s shelter centres is part of a declared effort to carry out its displacement plans against the Gazan people, give them the impression that there is nowhere safe for them to live within the Strip, and worsen their suffering amid the genocide that has been ongoing since 7 October, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued Monday.

The Geneva-based organisation stressed that Israel’s deliberate attacks on Gaza’s shelter centres explicitly violate the rules of international law, particularly international humanitarian law. Shelter centres are supposed to be considered safe places, and Israel bears responsibility for the security of those who seek refuge inside them. Given that most victims of these attacks are civilians, including women and children, it is also evident that the methods used to carry out the attacks violate the principle of discrimination and fail to consider the standards of proportionality and military necessity. This could amount to serious violations and war crimes in accordance with international humanitarian and criminal law.

Israeli army defiles hundreds of graves in the Gaza Strip, steals dead bodies

Geneva – Israel’s army has attacked at least 12 cemeteries in the Gaza Strip by deliberately bulldozing and desecrating hundreds of graves and stealing dozens of bodies from them as part of its genocidal war on Palestinians in the Strip, which started on 7 October 2023, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement.

According to preliminary testimony gathered by Euro-Med Monitor, multiple Gaza Strip cemeteries have been targeted by the Israeli army. One such cemetery, Al-Batsh, was targeted on Friday 5 January. It was subjected to extensive levelling operations that included digging up graves and tearing apart some shrouded corpses.

In total disregard to South Africa’s lawsuit, Israel continues its genocidal war in Gaza

Geneva - The Israeli army has killed 2,124 Palestinians and injured 3,463 others since South Africa filed a lawsuit in the International Court for Justice (ICJ) on 29 December 2023, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Tuesday. The lawsuit accuses Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, in violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

Since the suit’s filing, the Israeli army has carried out almost 16 massacres per day during its military attacks against inhabited homes, the majority of which have included displaced people. Each attack has destroyed homes above the heads of the residents inside, killing and wounding dozens of civilians.

*Limiting or prohibiting medications from reaching injured and ill people is a death sentence and form of genocide*

Geneva - Those who have survived Israel’s ongoing air, land, and sea raids on the Gaza Strip face an imminent risk of death amid a dire lack of medications and serious spread of epidemics, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said.

Euro-Med Monitor strongly denounced Israel’s ban on medical supplies to hospitals and pharmacies in the Gaza Strip, particularly those in Gaza City and the Strip’s northern areas, calling the measure a death sentence for thousands of injured and sick people and another weapon of genocide, aimed at causing severe physical and psychological damage to the people of Gaza that will ultimately result in their death.

On eve of ICJ session, Euro-Med Monitor provides OHCHR, South African legal team with document detailing most prominent mass graves in Gaza Strip

Geneva - The South African legal team and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) were provided with an initial memorandum from Euro-Med Monitor yesterday detailing the most prominent mass graves established in the Gaza Strip during Israel’s ongoing genocide, launched on 7 October.

Euro-Med Monitor has also provided South Africa’s legal team with other memoranda about Israel’s mass killings, targeting of the Gaza Strip’s health sector, and various outcomes of the genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since South Africa submitted an application to institute proceedings against Israel on 29 December 2023. South Africa is charging Israel with genocide in the Strip, citing Israeli violations under the Genocide Convention.
