Lack of access to clean drinking water is a death sentence for the people of Gaza
Geneva - The catastrophic lack of clean drinking water sources in Gaza City and the northern areas of the Gaza Strip has left Palestinians there facing a horrifying tragedy akin to a death sentence, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued Monday, citing the war crime as further evidence of the genocide Israel has been carrying out against the Strip’s civilian population since 7 October 2023.
Distress is engulfing Gaza City and its northern regions in alarming ways—a result of Israel’s cutting off of the water supply in the Gaza Strip, systematic and intentional Israeli bombing of water sources and wells, and a lack of fuel required to run water conversion and distribution facilities, said Euro-Med Monitor.

Israel not only prevents entry of aid into Gaza, but also kills those who try to receive it
Geneva - The Israeli army is not only starving Palestinians in the northern Gaza Valley, but has also killed dozens of individuals who tried to receive the meagre aid that did arrive there, perpetuating the genocide that Israel has been committing against the people of the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement on Tuesday.
Euro-Med Monitor has documented shocking testimonies of the Israeli army killing and injuring dozens of Palestinians on Thursday 11 January 2024 on Al-Rashid Street, in the west of Gaza City, who were trying to receive humanitarian aid. The human rights organisation demanded that the involved United Nations agencies be held accountable for their failure to guarantee suitable channels for providing the populace with humanitarian aid.

Israeli Knesset’s decision to deny Gaza detainees legal representation provides legal cover for crime of enforced disappearance
Geneva - The Israeli Knesset’s General Assembly approved regulations that prevent Gazan detainees from meeting with their lawyers for an additional four months, thereby creating a legal cover for the crime of enforced disappearance committed against thousands of detainees, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued Thursday.
According to the statement, the detainees’ prolonged forced disappearance may be a sign of the degree of torture and violence they have endured during their arrest, interrogation, and detention. Euro-Med Monitor emphasised that offering legal cover to conceal detainees indicates the involvement of multiple Israeli authorities in human rights violations. This cover is worthless, however, given that enforced disappearance is considered a crime against humanity by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Gaza witnesses bloody week following Israeli legal team’s presentation before the ICJ
Geneva - Israeli army forces have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the International Court of Justice (ICJ) adjourned its hearings a week ago to consider South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor stated. South Africa has accused Israeli of violating its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the rights group said.
Euro-Med Monitor added that, in stark contrast to the narrative put forth by the Israeli legal team in an attempt to refute South Africa’s claims, the facts on the ground serve as further verification that Israel has been committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On massive scale, Israel violates rules for protecting cultural heritage
Geneva - Israel is conducting systematic military attacks against cultural sites and historical monuments as part of its ongoing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which began on 7 October 2023. This constitutes a serious violation of both international humanitarian and human rights law, particularly the Geneva Conventions and the International Hague Convention pertaining to the protection of cultural heritage, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Monday.
Euro-Med Monitor expressed deep concern over reports of the Israeli army seizing thousands of rare artefacts in the Gaza Strip, which may amount to a war crime according to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Israel’s army released footage on 17 January 2024 documenting its blowing up of Al-Israa University’s campus, located south of Gaza City, more than two months after occupying the university and using it as a military base, a centre for sniping civilians, and a temporary detention and investigation facility.

Israel’s targeting of thousands of displaced Gazans in Khan Yunis is further evidence of its genocide
Geneva - The Israeli army’s targeting of thousands of displaced people in the area of Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip—which was previously designated as a safe zone—constitutes a perpetuation of its ongoing genocide in the Strip, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued on Tuesday. The rights group said this targeting serves as further evidence of Israel’s attempt to implement its forced displacement plan and give the people of Gaza the impression that there is nowhere safe for them to live.
Israel had increased the scope of its military assault on Khan Yunis as of Saturday evening, 21 January, said Euro-Med Monitor. Israeli forces in the vicinity conducted numerous intense air raids described as “fire belts” to accompany its ground incursion, which has extended all the way to the west of the Khan Yunis refugee camp. Additionally, the Israeli military besieged shelter centres housing 10s of thousands of displaced people in the western part of Khan Yunis as well as in the area of Al-Mawasi, said Euro-Med Monitor.

Euro-Med Monitor warns of growing number of Israeli starvation victims following the death of an infant
Geneva – The number of Palestinian victims of Israeli starvation in the Gaza Strip is poised to grow, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor warned in a new statement, particularly among children and the elderly. The rights group said that Israel is using starvation as a weapon in its genocidal war against the Gazan people, ongoing since 7 October 2023.
The 2.3 million people living in the Gaza Strip face an increasing risk of starvation, according to Euro-Med Monitor. This risk is correlated with a severe decline in health, nutrition, and food security, an increase in the number of deaths brought on by infectious diseases, and a severe lack of access to basic water, sanitation, and hygiene services.

Gaza: International community must heed calls to stop Israel’s deliberate killing of starving civilians
Geneva – The latest instance of the Israeli army opening direct fire on Palestinians waiting for humanitarian supplies to enter Gaza City and the Strip’s northern areas has resulted in the killing of 20 people and injury of numerous others. The horrific crime was strongly denounced by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, which called it part of the Israeli strategy to starve and terrorise civilians across the Gaza Strip and impose additional restrictions on the entry and distribution of the already limited aid allowed to enter the besieged enclave.
Euro-Med Monitor highlighted that Israeli forces deliberately targeted dozens of starving Palestinian civilians with artillery shells at the Kuwait roundabout leading to Gaza City, killing at least 20 individuals and wounding more than 150 others, many of whom remain in critical condition.

Residents in the southern Gaza Strip subjected to widespread murder and abuse by Israeli army, pushing them to forced displacement
Geneva - The Israeli army is expanding the scope of forced displacement in the southern Gaza Strip’s Khan Yunis Governorate, with mass killing, destruction, and comprehensive abuse, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement on Sunday, citing the widespread violence as evidence of Israel’s genocidal war against Palestinian civilians, ongoing since 7 October 2023,
Less than two days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel would be subject to temporary measures as a result of its military operations infringing upon its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, including mass forced displacement to unsafe locations, thousands of people were forcibly evacuated from the Khan Yunis refugee camp and several other parts of the governorate to the Strip’s western coastal areas. There, they were met with bitter cold and rain, Israeli harassment tactics, and a lack of safe shelter and provision of basic humanitarian needs, Euro-Med Monitor reported.

Israel’s execution of three Palestinians—one of whom was injured—in hospital is a double crime, says Euro-Med Monitor
Geneva - The Israeli army carried out an extrajudicial execution on Tuesday morning, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor stated, killing three Palestinians—one of whom was injured—inside a civilian hospital in Jenin in the northern West Bank. The rights organisation called the incident a double crime.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Euro-Med Monitor said that members of an Israeli special force disguised as civilians targeted the three young men in clear violation of international humanitarian law. Three of the Israeli soldiers were dressed as nurses (in blue uniforms) or doctors (in white jackets), while the remaining soldiers were dressed as women. According to the statement, a total of 10 soldiers disguised as Palestinian civilians stormed Ibn Sina Hospital and shot the young men dead with silencer-fitted guns in a room on the third floor. One soldier pushed a wheelchair-bound patient in order to gain access to the hospital’s third floor, while another carried a baby bag containing the weapon.
