A call for an end to deadly border policies
CommemorAction in Calais, France

Every year on the sixth of February, people in Calais, France, gather for CommemorAction, organised by AlarmPhone, This protest against deadly border regimes began as a demonstration against the Tarajal massacre; on 6 February 2014, the Spanish Civil Guard killed at least 15 people, and dozens disappeared. CommemorAction has now become a global event to commemorate all those who have been killed, forcibly disappeared, or who died or went missing at borders and at sea.

Israel turns ‘safe’ corridor to Gaza’s south into trap to kill hungry, forcibly displaced Palestinians

Geneva - After forcing Palestinian civilians to flee from Gaza City to the area of Al-Mawasi in the Gaza Strip’s south, the Israeli army has killed these same civilians at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint in the central Gaza Strip. Israeli forces also targeted civilians waiting for aid trucks near the checkpoint, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported.

As documented by the rights organisation, on Sunday 25 February, Israeli forces killed 30 Palestinians while they were waiting for relief trucks in the vicinity of the Nabulsi roundabout on Al-Rashid Street, southwest of Gaza City.

In testimonies to Euro-Med Monitor, female detainees report being subjected to sexual violence, torture by Israeli forces

Geneva - In new testimonies documented by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, female Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip report being subjected to sexual violence, torture, inhuman treatment, strip searches, sexual harassment, and rape threats while being arrested and held by Israeli army forces.

According to the testimonies of female detainees who were recently released following various periods of detention, they endured severe treatment that amounts to torture, including beatings, threats of rape if they disobeyed orders, forced nudity, strip searches in front of male soldiers, and verbal harassment. Members of the Israeli army not only robbed them of any money and belongings they had at the time of their arrest, but tied the detainees up, blindfolded them for extended periods of time, held them in cages amid freezing weather, and denied them access to food, medicine, essential medical care, and menstrual products. Israeli forces also continuously threatened them with losing the ability to see their children.

Horrific testimonies: Israeli army tortures Palestinians in Gaza physically and psychologically

Geneva - As Israel continues its genocide in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has documented the Israeli army’s sadistic abuse and torture of Palestinians there. This includes purposefully causing severe physical and psychological harm, which will undoubtedly have long-term effects, after storming their homes and shelter centres or attacking them on forced evacuation routes and so-called “safe corridors”.

In a new statement issued on Wednesday following the Israeli detention, investigation, and interrogation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the Euro-Med Monitor team confirmed that it had received horrifying testimonies and had personally interviewed recently-released victims of cruel torture practices that appeared to have a sadistic bent. These attacks have left deep wounds and numerous scars on the survivors’ bodies and have negatively affected their psychological health, stated the rights group. It appears from the documented testimonies that the attacks were carried out in retaliation and as collective punishment for being Palestinian.

Brief statement: Euro-Med’s initial inquiries confirm Israel’s involvement in killing and wounding dozens of starving civilians in Gaza

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor confirms that our initial investigations demonstrate that the Israeli army's gunfire caused the deaths of dozens of Palestinian civilians who were receiving humanitarian aid in western Gaza at dawn on Thursday, and that the Israeli army is attempting to disassociate itself from the horrific crime by releasing a shattered aerial video clip and arguing that the large number of civilian deaths was caused by a stampede and trampling.

The Euro-Med Monitor stated that its research teams observed the events from the first moments and recorded that Israeli tanks opened heavy fire on groups of Palestinian civilians attempting to receive humanitarian aid west and south of Gaza City. As a result, 112 civilians were killed and 760 were injured, while many victims are thought to remain in the targeted area.

Israeli tanks have deliberately run over dozens of Palestinian civilians alive, says Euro-Med Monitor

Geneva - The Israeli army’s repeated killings of Palestinian civilians by deliberately running them over alive with military vehicles was vehemently denounced by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor on Sunday, as was the widespread destruction of civilian property. These crimes are part of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the rights group said, ongoing since 7 October 2023.

The Geneva-based organisation documented the Israeli army’s killing of a Palestinian man who was deliberately run over in Gaza City’s Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood on 29 February after he was arrested. The man was subjected to harsh interrogation by members of the Israeli army, who bound his hands with plastic zip-tie handcuffs before running him over with a military vehicle from the bottom to the top of his body.

New evidence confirms Israel’s full involvement in ‘Flour Massacre’ of starving Palestinian civilians

Geneva – Several recent developments confirm Israel’s full involvement in what has been dubbed the “Flour Massacre”, revealed Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor in a new statement, referring to the killing of Palestinian civilians attempting to receive humanitarian aid at dawn last Thursday. The rights group said that its ongoing investigations into the horrific incident at the Nabulsi roundabout, southwest of Gaza City, verify the Israeli army’s role in the massacre, citing evidence including the precise type of bullets used and reiterating calls for an effective international investigation to hold Israeli officials accountable.

According to Euro-Med Monitor’s statement, many victims of the massacre suffered injuries from 5.56x45mm NATO bullets; this is a type of bullet fired from Israeli army weapons. The statement went on to explain that a sample of 200 dead and injured victims revealed that they were indeed hit by this type of bullet, and that the bullets were discovered and examined at the massacre site along with shrapnel found in the bodies of the wounded and dead.

ICC Prosecutor shows clear double standard when dealing with situation in Palestine

Geneva - Expressing profound concern about the inability of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to carry out its mandate, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor warned that this will cause irreversible harm the rights of the Palestinian people. The rights group also said that the entire process of establishing justice with regard to the situation in Palestine—particularly in relation to the crime of genocide that Israel has been committing in the Gaza Strip on a daily basis for five months now—is in danger of failing unless taken seriously by the ICC.

Euro-Med Monitor highlighted the dire need for the ICC to treat Israel’s crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip with the highest degree of seriousness, which should consequently prompt the majority of United Nations and international institutions and experts to pressure Israel to end its assault on the Strip. The suspicion of the occurrence of this genocide has already been confirmed by the world’s highest court, the International Court of Justice.

In just 24 hours, two children and an elderly man starve to death amid rising malnutrition rates in Gaza

Geneva - An alarming hunger, malnutrition, and dehydration crisis is sweeping through the northern Gaza Strip, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported. This occurs as Israel continues its five-month-long genocide against the Palestinian people in the Strip, with no international pressure to stop the crime or ensure the establishment of effective mechanisms to deliver the required humanitarian aid.

In a statement on Thursday, Euro-Med Monitor highlighted that its field team in Gaza City and the northern part of the Strip is documenting deaths, nearly daily, as a result of the famine that has spread throughout the area, whether in hospitals or displacement centres and remaining homes. The number of deaths is also showing a notable increase among children and the elderly.

Euro-Med Monitor to UNHRC: An environmental pollution catastrophe is growing in Gaza Strip

Geneva - The Gaza Strip is on the verge of an environmental pollution catastrophe, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor warned, as a result of the devastation caused by the Israeli aggression that has been waged against civilians in the blockaded Strip since 7 October 2023.

Speaking at the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Euro-Med Monitor called on the Council and its Member States to put pressure on Israel to immediately stop its indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip and to hold it accountable for its crimes and grave violations.

Kidney failure patients face slow death amid Israel’s genocide in Gaza

Palestinian Territory - Thousands of people with chronic and serious diseases, including kidney failure patients, face a slow death amid Israel’s genocide of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023.

There are between 1,000 and 1,500 kidney failure patients in the Strip, and these patients’ health conditions are rapidly worsening due to a lack of medical and therapeutic services, medications, and other necessities. The collapse of the health system has put immense strain on hospitals, most of which are disrupted by damage, the siege, and disruptions in fuel, electricity, and clean water supplies. As a result, patients are no longer receiving regular dialysis services.

This incident has resulted in over 60 deaths and 160 injuries, some of which are critical.

Amid conditions of famine created by Israel’s government, the Israeli army continues to deliberately commit massacres in the besieged enclave. Israeli army is attempting to evade responsibility for yet another flour massacre in Gaza

Palestinian Territory - The Israeli army is yet again attempting to evade responsibility for massacring Palestinian civilians who were waiting for aid supplies. Israel’s most recent “flour massacre” occurred last night near the Kuwait roundabout on the outskirts of Gaza City, and left more than 80 dead and 200 injured, a number of whom are in critical condition.

Israel’s army has released a video clip featuring an armed individual, in an attempt to claim that Palestinian gunmen were responsible for the deaths of the recent massacre victims. The clip in question does not validate the Israeli army’s assertion, however. In contrast, four pieces of evidence have surfaced during Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s initial investigations into the crime and clip released by the Israeli army, with the evidence confirming that the dead and wounded victims of this massacre were not shot by the gunfire that appears in this clip.

Lebanon: Summoning university professor Makram Rabah for investigation into statements is new violation of freedom of expression

Beirut - Ongoing violations of the right to freedom of opinion and expression by the military judiciary and security services in Lebanon, including the recent summoning of a university professor for questioning over press statements, should raise alarm bells.

The request was made in response to press remarks made by Rabah during a television interview about a political meeting in Beirut; the Lebanese government considers the remarks to be a flagrant violation of the state’s constitutional guarantees and its international obligations regarding the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
