Heartbreak and Hope: The Unheard Stories of Gaza's Fathers
This coming Sunday, on June 16th, families across the UK will be celebrating Father’s Day sat at the table, exchanging gifts, laughing, and smiling together. With the national holiday fast approaching, the city and its shops are filled with adverts, decorations, and gift ideas. I cannot help but feel bittersweet about my excitement to shower my father with love and appreciation, whilst knowing there is a cruel disparity between us in the UK and Palestinians in Gaza. Images of Palestinian fathers crying in pain at the loss of their homes, children, wives, and livelihood as their screams go unheard by the western media and international communities, haunts my mind. Families in Gaza will not be celebrating Father’s Day. Thousands of children have been left traumatised after losing one or both of their parents and thousands of heartbroken fathers have witnessed the horrifying deaths of their children.

Israeli army intensifies attacks against civilians, infrastructure, and municipal crews in the Gaza Strip
Palestinian Territory - For the ninth consecutive month, the Israeli army has continued its massive military attack on the Gaza Strip, using disproportionately destructive force and committing mass murder against Palestinian civilians, even in areas it has designated as safe zones.
A marked increase in Israeli targeted bombing during the past few days has been documented by the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor field team. This includes bombing homes directly over the heads of their occupants and targeting displaced people's tents in areas that Israel has designated as humanitarian zones. The escalation reached its peak on Friday, 21 June, when more than 67 civilians were killed and more than 125 others were injured.

Gaza: By destroying agricultural lands and blocking food aid, Israel uses starvation as a weapon of war against civilians
Palestinian Territory - Israel has forced over 75% of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian people’s hands, either by isolating it in preparation for illegally annexing it to its military “buffer zone” or by bulldozing or otherwise damaging it, thereby destroying the Strip’s supply of fruits, vegetables, and meat. Furthermore, Israel has barred food supplies and humanitarian aid from entering the Strip, exacerbating the famine there and enabling the use of starvation as a weapon of war in its crime of genocide, ongoing for nearly nine consecutive months.
Since the start of its military assault on the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023, the Israeli army has worked methodically to destroy livestock, agricultural lands, and bird farms in a consistent manner with the clear intention of starving the populace and denying them access to the staple foods of fruits, vegetables, and white and red meat. This has left the population’s survival dependent on the Israeli decision to allow or prohibit the entry of humanitarian aid.
According to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Strip, four children starved to death in a single week due to Israel’s decision, bringing the total number of starvation victims in the Strip to approximately 40.

Gaza: Urgent action must be taken to prevent a full-blown famine across the entire Strip
Palestinian Territory – A recently issued report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Famine Review Committee (FRC) states that the Committee was unable to determine whether or not famine thresholds have been passed in the Gaza Strip, due to a lack of essential up-to-date data in midst of Israel’s genocidal war, ongoing since 7 October 2023.
The International Committee’s report does not deny that there is extreme hunger in the Gaza Strip; rather, the core of its argument is that there is insufficient information to make a firm determination that the situation in the Strip has devolved into famine. The Committee therefore urges all sides to allow for the conducting of field surveys in northern Gaza in order to gather more reliable data on the state of food consumption, nutrition, and mortality there.

Israel continues to deliberately bomb UN-run shelter centres, killing displaced people inside
Palestinian Territory - As part of the ongoing crime of genocide it has been committing since 7 October 2023, Israel has implemented a systematic policy of targeting civilians of the Gaza Strip, who are protected by international humanitarian law. This includes intensifying the bombing of shelter centres over the heads of the displaced peopleinside, as well as targeting areas designated as humanitarian zones.
The Israeli military has been killing large numbers of Palestinians in the Strip for nearly nine months now by bombing civilian targets, attacking United Nations-run shelter centres, and carrying out mass killings—each of which is a serious violation ofinternational law on its own.

A compound crime: Israeli army hits Gaza family, uses them as human shields, and runs over their mother
Palestinian Territory - The Israeli army continues to use its tanks to deliberately run over live Palestinian civilians and crush their bodies, in addition to using civilians as human shields, in the ground operations of its crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip that has been ongoing since 7 October 2023.
The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor field team documented a compound and comprehensive crime against a civilian family comprising an elderly woman and her four children, including three young women and a one-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter. The family was attacked with gunfire and bombs after Israeli forces stormed their house on Thursday evening, 27 June. They were later taken outside and detained for over three hours despite their injuries in their home, near Israeli tanks in a dangerous combat zone, where they were used as human shields. The 65-year-old mother, identified as Safiya Hassan Musa Al-Jamal, was run over by an Israeli tank and killed in front of her son.

Chinese companies must prevent their arms, drones from being used in Israeli international crimes
Geneva - In regions affected by armed conflicts, companies face an increased risk of becoming complicit in serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws. Consequently, businesses operating in such environments must exercise enhanced due diligence to mitigate these heightened risks effectively.
More specifically, when a product is misused in ways that contradict the company’s international obligations and non-violent values, particularly for military purposes leading to the commission of international crimes and grave human rights violations, the company must act decisively. It should take immediate steps to cease or prevent its contribution and use leverage to mitigate the remaining impact to the greatest extent possible.

The Israeli army’s use of Palestinian civilians as human shields has been documented on a large scale
Palestinian Territory - Video footage released by Al Jazeera TV shows the Israeli army using detained Palestinian civilians as human shields and compelling them to enter dangerous combat zones—evidence of a systematic tactic of the army. There are numerous documented instances of civilians being used as human shields by Israeli forces, which is considered a war crime.
The leaked horrific scenes that were obtained and published by Al Jazeera reveal how the Israeli army uses civilians, including injured detainees, as human shields and forces them into hazardous combat zones after installing cameras on their bodies and binding them with rope. Each of the aforementioned acts of criminal, brutal, and inhumane behaviour constitutes a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, and is a full-fledged war crime. These crimes, and dozens of similar cases, require urgent intervention from the international justice system to ensure the protection of civilians, prevent their use as human shields, and hold the Israeli political and military perpetrators.

Israel uses water as a weapon of its genocidein Gaza
Palestinian Territory - Through persistent, systematic, and widespread targeting of the Gaza Strip’s water sources and desalination plants, Israel is using water as a weapon against Palestinian civilians. In addition to imposing famine, Israel is deliberately reducing the amount of water available to residents of the Strip—especially potable water sources—intentionally targeting the over 2.3 million people who live there as part of its genocide, ongoing since last October.
On Monday, July 1, the Euro-Med Monitor field team observed significant damage to a desalination plant in the Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood, south of Gaza City, as a result of direct Israeli targeting. This also resulted in the killing of a young man who was filling a gallon with water, plus the wounding of other individuals. The station, which provided services to at least 50,000 people in several nearby residential neighbourhoods, sustained significant damage after being bombed by the Israeli army with a GBU missile that broke through multiple stories and detonated on the ground floor.

Gaza: Thousands of dead bodies still missing under the rubble, with no international action
Palestinian Territory - More than 10,000 Palestinian men and women are missing under the rubble in the Gaza Strip, with no way to recover them or properly bury their remains, in a blatant violation of international law amid total international inaction to assist in their retrieval.
Recovering the bodies of the victims of Israel’s nearly ten months of deadly and destructive military attacks on civilians will be extremely difficult, given the lack of heavy machinery and equipment for civil defense crews and the difficulty of their work. Furthermore, the Israeli army has deliberately and methodically targetedand destroyed this machinery and equipment, while preventing any replacement equipment entry to the Gaza Strip.

Israel is besieging Gaza’s wounded and sick to death, preventing their ability to travel for treatment
Palestinian Territory - The international community must effectively pressure Israel to open the border crossings and allow sick and injured people to leave the Gaza Strip for treatment. Thousands of sick and injured people face certain death as they are unable to receive treatment in the Strip amid the destruction or travel elsewhere, due to Israel’s systematic targeting of the region’s health sector—which has rendered most of its components inoperable—and the strict Israeli siege.
Nine months into its genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Israel still besieges the sick and injured, preventing them from leaving the Strip to receive medical treatment, despite having destroyed or rendered most of the region’s hospitals inoperable. As a result, more than 26,000 sick and injured individuals who require immediate external referrals for life-saving care will die, and thousands more will have to wait totravel to finish their treatment or obtain critical medical and rehabilitation services that are unavailable in the Strip.

Israeli army launches new, massive wave of forced displacement against the people of Gaza City and North Gaza
Palestinian Territory – The Israeli army began waging a new war of terror early this morning, forcibly displacing the people living in Gaza City and North Gaza and causing another massive wave of internal displacement. This is part of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023.
Tens of thousands of Gazans were displaced from multiple areas of Gaza City, and now have nowhere left to go, amid conflicting displacement orders issued by the Israeli army and no safe passages. This comes along with the Israeli military’s systematic and widespread genocidal war of starvation and deliberate, indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians in the Strip.

Gaza: As talks resume, Israel escalates its genocidal war by using civilians as a tool of political pressure, blackmail
Palestinian Territory - As talks resume to reach a truce to end Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023, the Israeli military appears to be using its policy of forced displacement and starvation as a tool of political pressure and blackmail.
Israel is expanding its targeting of displacement centres and surrounding areas and continuing to carry out mass killing operations against civilians and displaced people, all while preventing the displaced from returning to their homes, starving them, denying them access to basic supplies that are necessary for survival, and blocking the entry of humanitarian aid. These acts demonstrate an insistence on committing genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Khan Yunis witnesses one of its bloodiest days yet as Israel’s crime of genocide continues to unfold
Palestinian Territory - The Israeli army has killed 70 Palestinians and wounded 200 others, mostly children and women, in less than 12 hours in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of civilians have received new evacuation orders in the area.
These latest crimes come as part of Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023.
The atrocities committed by the Israeli army against civilians in the Strip over the past nine months are well-documented and carried out consistently. These crimes include killing, mass murder, starvation, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid, forced evacuation, destruction of civilian objects, and the denial of any kind of stability, as has been the case in Khan Yunis since this morning (22 July 2024). Such actions indicate that the occupation army is essentially destroying the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in every way that it can.

Attempts by pro-Israel countries and organisations to question ICC jurisdiction risk undermining justice, entrenching impunity
Geneva - The International Criminal Court in The Hague (ICC) has received dozens of requests for written amicus curiae observations on issues related to its jurisdiction and admissibility of the case in Palestine. These efforts aim to prevent the Court from issuing arrest warrants for Israeli military and political leaders, thereby impeding the process of trying and holding them accountable for their crimes against the Palestinian people in the 1967 Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. These ongoing attempts could erode accountability, undermine justice, and entrench impunity.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor considers these interventions a threat to international peace and security. They undermine the legitimacy, impartiality, and independence of the International Criminal Court itself, prioritizing political interests over the pursuit of global justice. This approach protects perpetrators instead of victims, leading to the institutionalization of impunity and the denial of victims' rights to justice and redress at all levels, particularly the international level.

About 10% of the Gaza Strip’s population killed, injured, or missing due to the Israeli genocide
Occupied Palestinian Territory - About 10% of the Gaza Strip’s population has been killed, injured, or is missing due to the 293-day genocide carried out by Israel in the Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023.
Euro-Med Monitor’s preliminary statistics indicate that about 50,000 Palestinians have been killed. This number includes those reportedly trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings, or whose bodies are either stuck on roads or in border areas that have been completely destroyed, and thus cannot be recovered. More than about 100,000 others, meanwhile, have been injured. The majority of these victims were civilians, mostly women and children, while about 3,000 additional Palestinians have simply disappeared after being arrested from the Gaza Strip, with their fate remaining unknown.
