Fewer than 100 people who have cross the English Channel in small boats have been arrested for arriving illegally in the UK under a new power to deter them.
The figure represents 0.3% of those who have crossed since the law was changed.
Under the new law, anyone who arrives in the UK without proper permission or good reason commits a crime that can lead to up to four years in prison.

Out of more than 1,000 Albanians who are subject to these orders in the UK, only 25 are recorded as having ‘no barrier’ to deportation.
Border Force sources say that around one third of the remaining migrants have claimed to be victims of modern slavery. A further quarter have claimed asylum under human rights laws.

After his deportation to Afghanistan, Kochai left his home country again and said he travelled through Iran, Pakistan and Turkey to make his way to France.
He had earlier been given the option to serve a longer prison sentence and stay in the UK, but took an option of leaving prison earlier and being deported.
