Following brief and extremely limited moments of internet access, accounts recently posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) describe widespread and deadly gunfire by security forces against civilians during protests. Hossein Qashqaei, one of the witnesses, wrote in a series of posts that security forces were “firing brutally and spraying people with gunfire.” He said that he and several others took shelter behind a door to avoid being shot, but that location was also targeted, and several people were hit and fell to the ground in front of them. He wrote: “I don’t know how or why I survived.”

In another post, Qashqaei described the killing of a protester before his eyes: “He was right in front of me, his fists clenched, shouting ‘Javid Shah (Long Live Shah).’ A bullet hit his throat and he fell to the ground. He died in my arms. It felt like losing my brother.”

Following these accounts, Sarah Shamsaei, Qashqaei’s wife, wrote in a separate post that during the protests “the people of the city had come out of their homes and poured into the streets,” and the streets of Lahijan were filled with people. She added: “The city belonged to the people; everyone was happy. Then suddenly they started shooting and spraying people with bullets.” Shamsaei wrote that since that day “the whole city has been overcome by grief,” adding: “All of Iran smells of blood.”

These accounts have emerged amid severe internet shutdowns and communication restrictions, which make independent verification of the details impossible. Nonetheless, the testimonies once again point to the lethal use of firearms against unarmed protesters and the climate of fear imposed across cities in Iran.

با وصل شدن لحظه ای و بسیار محدود شهروندان به اینترنت، روایت‌هایی که به ‌تازگی در شبکه اجتماعی ایکس (توییتر) منتشر شده، از تیراندازی گسترده و مرگبار نیروهای امنیتی به شهروندان در اعتراضات حکایت دارد. حسین قشقایی، یکی از شاهدان، در چند توییت پیاپی نوشته است که نیروهای امنیتی «وحشیانه شلیک می‌کردند و مردم را به رگبار می‌بستند». او می‌گوید همراه چند نفر دیگر پشت یک در پناه گرفته بودند تا از گلوله‌ها در امان بمانند، اما همان محل نیز هدف تیراندازی قرار گرفت و چند نفر در برابر چشمانشان گلوله خوردند و بر زمین افتادند. او نوشته است: «نمی‌دانم چطور و چرا زنده‌ام.»
قشقایی در روایت دیگری از کشته‌شدن یک معترض در مقابل چشمانش خبر داده و نوشته است: «جلوی چشمم بود، دست‌هایش را مشت کرده بود و فریاد می‌زد جاوید شاه، تیر به گلویش خورد و افتاد روی زمین، روی دست‌هایم جان داد. انگار برادرم را از دست داده بودم.»

پس از این روایت‌ها، سارا شمسایی، همسر حسین قشقایی، نیز در توییتی جداگانه نوشته است که در زمان اعتراضات «تمام شهر بیرون بود» و خیابان‌های لاهیجان مملو از جمعیت بود. او افزوده است: «شهر دست مردم بود، همه خوشحال بودیم، اما ناگهان شروع کردند به تیراندازی و به رگبار بستن مردم.» شمسایی نوشته است که از آن روز «تمام شهر را غم فرا گرفته» و تأکید کرده است: «همه ایران بوی خون می‌دهد.»

According to additional information obtained by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), the individual whose account of being rescued from the Kahrizak Forensic Center was previously published was a teenager under 18 years old. According to this account, during the three days he was held among the bodies transferred to the Kahrizak, he heard the ringing of cell phones among the corpses and smelled the intense stench of decay.

The witness reported that whenever groans from the wounded were heard, they were shortly followed by the sound of gunfire and the cessation of the groaning, strongly indicating that security forces delivered fatal shots to wounded individuals who were still alive. The teenager was eventually released from the Kahrizak Forensic Center in extremely poor physical condition.

The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center has communicated several times with the teenager’s family through intermediaries and received additional information. These details raise serious concerns regarding the treatment of the wounded, violations of the right to life, and extrajudicial killings, including of minors, during the suppression of protests.

بر اساس اطلاعات تکمیلی به دست آمده توسط مرکز اسناد حقوق بشر ایران، معترضی که پیش‌تر روایت نجات او از کهریزک منتشر شده بود، نوجوانی زیر ۱۸ سال بوده است. طبق این روایت، وی در طول سه روزی که در میان پیکرهای منتقل‌شده به کهریزک نگهداری می‌شده، صدای زنگ تلفن‌های همراه اجساد را می‌شنیده و بوی شدید تعفن را استشمام می‌کرده است.

این شاهد گفته است که هرگاه صدای ناله‌ای از مجروحان شنیده می‌شده، اندکی بعد صدای شلیک گلوله به گوش می‌رسیده و ناله‌ها قطع می‌شده‌اند؛ موضوعی که نشانه‌ای قوی از تیرخلاص زدن نیروهای امنیتی به مجروحان زنده است.

این نوجوان در نهایت، در وضعیت جسمی بسیار نامناسب، از کهریزک خارج شده است. مرکز اسناد حقوق بشر ایران چندین بار از طریق واسطه با خانواده این نوجوان تماس گرفته و اطلاعات تکمیلی را دریافت کرده است. این جزئیات نگرانی‌های جدی درباره رفتار با مجروحان، نقض حق حیات و قتل فراقضایی افراد، از جمله نوجوانان، در جریان سرکوب اعتراضات را تشدید می‌کند.

Based on reports published by multiple media outlets, Arzoo Abedi was killed on Friday, January 9, 2026, after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head from a military-grade weapon. A video circulating online shows her mother mourning at her gravesite and condemning the Islamic Republic for her daughter’s death, the killing of civilians, and the presence of forces affiliated with the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) and Lebanese Hezbollah in Iran. In the video, her mother explicitly alleges that members of the Iraqi militia were responsible for shooting and killing her daughter.

Arzoo Abedi, a 50-year-old woman, was killed on Bagh Daryacheh Street in Isfahan, Isfahan Province, while in the company of her two children—a 19-year-old son and a 25-year-old daughter. آرزو عابدی، ۵۰ ساله، در خیابان باغ دریاچه شهر اصفهان و در حالی که به همراه دو فرزند خود، یک پسر ۱۹ ساله و یک دختر ۲۵ ساله بود، کشته شد. سه روز بعد، در روز دوشنبه ۲۲ دی‌ ماه، پیکر وی به‌ صورت شبانه در گورستان شهر دُرچه، در نزدیکی شهر اصفهان، و با این شرط که هیچ مراسم عمومی تشییع برگزار نشود، و در حضور شمار زیادی از نیروهای امنیتی به خاک سپرده شد.

The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) has learned through a reliable source that Pedram Argha, a 31-year-old dentist and resident of Kermanshah, was shot during protests on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in the city. According to the source, Pedram Argha encountered security forces after leaving his clinic. The officers were engaged in a confrontation with another man and were attempting to assault him, at which point Argha intervened to protect the individual. During the encounter, Argha was shot from two directions: one bullet from behind and another from the front. Following the incident, bystanders transferred him back to his clinic and informed his family. He was subsequently taken to a private hospital, where he fell into a coma and ultimately died on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Pedram Argha was an adherent of the Yarsani faith.

According to received information, authorities pressured his family to either pay one billion tomans (approximately 2,000 USD) or identify Pedram as a member of the Basij militia in order to release his body. Since Argha’s father was unable to pay this amount, the family was compelled to accept the designation of him as a regime supporter.

مرکز اسناد حقوق بشر ایران از طریق یک منبع مطلع دریافته است، که پدرام ارغا، دندانپزشک ۳۱ ساله و ساکن کرمانشاه، در جریان اعتراضات روز پنج‌شنبه ۱۸ دی ۱۴۰۴ در این شهر هدف شلیک گلوله قرار گرفت. به گفته این منبع، پدرام ارغا پس از خروج از مطب خود با نیروهای امنیتی مواجه شد. مأموران در حال درگیری با مردی دیگر بودند و قصد ضرب و شتم او را داشتند که پدرام برای حمایت از آن فرد وارد عمل شد. در جریان این برخورد، پدرام ارغا از دو جهت هدف گلوله قرار گرفت؛ یک گلوله از پشت و دیگری از روبه‌رو شلیک شد. پس از این حادثه، حاضرین در محل او را به مطب منتقل کرده و خانواده‌اش را مطلع کردند. وی سپس به یک بیمارستان خصوصی منتقل شد، اما به کما رفت و نهایتاً روز شنبه ۲۰ دی جان باخت. پدرام ارغا پیرو آیین یارسانی بود.

بر اساس اطلاعات دریافتی، مأموران برای تحویل جسد، خانواده او را تحت فشار قرار دادند تا یا یک میلیارد تومان پرداخت کنند و یا هویت پدرام را به عنوان بسیجی معرفی کنند. با توجه به این که پدر پدرام توانایی پرداخت این مبلغ را نداشت، خانواده مجبور به پذیرش معرفی او به عنوان بسیجی شدند.

با توجه به محدودیت‌های شدید ارتباطی و قطعی مداوم اینترنت، تأیید مستقل تمامی جزئیات این روایت‌ها در حال حاضر امکان‌پذیر نیست.

According to reports received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), on January 19, 2026, eleven agents acting on warrants from the Judiciary and the Prosecutor’s Office arrested Artin Ghazanfari, a Baha’i news photographer, at his Tehran residence.

During a seven-hour search of his home and private office, authorities confiscated personal belongings, electronic devices, and literature. Following his arrest, Mr. Ghazanfari was permitted only one brief telephone communication, during which he was unable to disclose his whereabouts. بر اساس گزارش رسیده به مرکز اسناد حقوق بشر ایران، دوشنبه ۲۹ دی‌ماه، ۱۱ مأمور با حکم قوه قضائیه و دادستانی به منزل آرتین غضنفری، شهروند بهایی و عکاس خبری ساکن تهران، مراجعه کرده و او را بازداشت کردند.
این مأموران از ساعت ۹ صبح تا ۴ بعدازظهر منزل او را تفتیش کرده و حجم زیادی از وسایل شخصی، تجهیزات الکترونیکی و کتاب‌های وی را با خود بردند. سپس به دفتر شخصی او رفته و آنجا را نیز مورد بازرسی قرار دادند.
آرتین غضنفری در این مدت تنها یک تماس کوتاه تلفنی داشته و از محل نگهداری خود اطلاعی نداده است. تا این لحظه، هیچ خبری از محل بازداشت و اتهامات مطرح‌شده علیه او در دست نیست.
وی پیش‌تر نیز در سال ۱۳۸۸ بازداشت و به اتهام «تبلیغ علیه نظام» و «اخلال در نظم عمومی» به یک سال حبس محکوم شده بود.
همزمان با اعتراضات سراسری دی‌ماه ۱۴۰۴، گزارش‌هایی از بازداشت شماری از شهروندان بهایی در شهرهای مشهد، کرمان و تهران نیز منتشر شده است.

According to information received from local sources in Mashhad, Qaem Hospital, the city’s main university hospital, has effectively become a site of deadly violence amid ongoing unrest. Sources report that numerous young people have been killed at the hospital, and that injured protesters— including those with pellet wounds—have allegedly been shot after seeking medical treatment.

The same sources say that most doctors at the hospital have been detained inside the facility and are not allowed to leave. They are reportedly forced to treat only wounded security forces and affiliated patients, some of whom are said to be non-Iranian, including members of Hashd al-Shaabi and Sudanese forces. Independent verification remains extremely difficult due to the lack of media access and reporting from the area.
