According to a report received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, Amirali (Hassan) Roudgar, a resident of Nowshahr, was arrested on January 26, 2026, by plainclothes forces affiliated with the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after being beaten. He was initially taken to Sari Prison and later transferred to Nowshahr Prison. Mr. Roudgar had participated in the January 8 protests in Nowshahr and had been injured by pellet gunfire to his face and neck.
In his final Instagram story prior to his arrest, he wrote:
“From this moment on, whatever is said from me, know that it was under coercion, not from the heart. I have already said what I needed to say.
I was not in contact with any group that would make me a wanted leader.
I have one life, and I offer it a thousand times for my homeland. Forgive me.”
According to the report, his family has, to date, not been allowed to obtain legal counsel. As of now, no information has been released regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges brought against him.
