According to a report received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, Reza Karami, a 33-year-old resident of Karaj in Alborz province, died on January 9, 2026, after being struck in the heart by a live round fired by security forces.

After a week of searching, his family identified his body at Behesht-e Sakineh Cemetery. According to reports, security forces set two conditions for releasing the body: either payment of the demanded sum and burial without public announcement in his ancestral village, or publicly stating that he had been killed by “terrorists.” Ultimately, unable to pay the requested amount, the family was compelled to appear in a report on Alborz Province Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) station and declare that their son had been killed by “terrorists.”

Reza Karami worked as a massage therapist and had a strong interest in design and painting.

Due to restrictions on access to information and the prevailing security conditions imposed on the families of killed citizens, independent verification of all details of these reports is currently not possible.
