Sanga Siddiqi is an Afghan-Dutch lawyer, political activist, and advocate for women’s rights. Born in Afghanistan, she grew up under the rule of the Mujahideen and Taliban and was deprived of education until the age of 12 simply because she was a girl.

She went on to study Law and Political Science at Kabul University and, after moving to the Netherlands in 2008, specialized in financial law and economics. She currently serves as a tax prosecutor at the Dutch Ministry of Finance and is also a member of the leadership team of the D66 political party in the city of Zoetermeer.

Her journey reflects both the challenges Afghan girls face and the possibilities that become available when they have access to education and opportunity.

“For me, justice means that a girl can go to school without fear; that a woman can choose her profession, her partner, and her future.”

Sanga’s story is also a reminder that Afghan women should not be defined only by the suffering they have endured. They are lawyers, educators, leaders, professionals, and advocates who have knowledge, creativity, and the ability to shape their own futures.

Her message is simple: the world must listen to women’s stories—and recognize their experiences, voices, and leadership as an essential part of achieving justice and equality.
