On October 15, 2024, four prisoners sentenced to death in Sheiban prison in Ahvaz, were transferred to solitary confinement, indicating that their execution could be imminent. The prisoners are named Moein Khanfari, Mohammad Reza Moghadam, Ali Majdam and Adnan Mousavi. According to reports, Mohammad Reza Moghadam and Moein Khanfari told their families in a short one-minute call that they were told to "recite their Shahada”, or Islamic last rites. On February 14, 2023, these four prisoners along with Habib Deris and Salem Mousavi, were sentenced to death by Branch Four of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on the charge of moharebeh, or waging war against God. The last court session of these political prisoners was held online on April 23, 2024. The trials of these individuals are reported to have been marred by violations of their due process rights, including extraction of confessions under torture.
