The Iranian government has executed Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou in secret. His case was riddled with inconsistencies, including evidence that he was in Turkey at the time of the alleged crime for which he was sentenced to death. He was subjected to severe pressure and torture, ultimately leading to a forced confession.

Fars News Agency, affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), announced hours ago that political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou has been executed. The agency described Mr. Heydranlou as the main perpetrator behind the killing of eight border guards and linked him to terrorist groups.

Mr. Heydranlou was transferred to solitary confinement on Wednesday, April 17, 2025, in preparation for his execution. However, following a sit-in protest by his family outside Oroumieh prison in an attempt to prevent the execution, he was reportedly removed from the facility and taken to an unknown location on Thursday, April 18. According to judiciary officials his execution took place in Tehran.
