On September 17, 2025, Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals upheld the prison sentences of Morteza (Kalvin) Faghanpour Saasi, Abolfazl (Benjamin) Ahmadzadeh Khajani, Hessamuddin (Yahya) Mohammad Junaidi, and two other Christian converts.
According to Article 18, in July 2025, Branch 1 of the Varamin Revolutionary Court had sentenced these citizens to seven years and six months imprisonment on charges of “educational and deviant activities contrary to Islam”, as well as seven months imprisonment on charges of “disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” The Appeals Court confirmed these rulings.
In addition, Morteza (Kalvin) Faghanpour Saasi received an additional 17-month imprisonmemt for insulting the Supreme Leader. The court emphasized the maximum sentence of seven years and six months must be enforced for each of the five converts.
These Christian, along with two others, were arrested in June 2024 in Varamin and Pishva and spent between one and six months in Evin prison. Article 18 reports that during his six-month detention, Mr. Faghanpour was subjected to torture.
