Sayyad Darvishi, brother of Farjad Darvishi, who was killed during nationwide protests of 2022, was arrested after being summoned to the Oroumieh Prosecutor's Office in West Azarbaijan Province. He was subsequently transferred to the central prison of Oroumieh to serve his sentence. Mr. Darvishi was arrested by security forces in November 2023 without a court order and was held in solitary confinement in the Oroumieh Ministry of Intelligence detention center. He was subjected to intense interrogation and torture for two months without access to counsel. He was also denied family visits. Mr. Darvishi was temporarily released on bail on December 31, 2023. Later, he was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment by the Oroumieh Revolutionary Court on the charge of conspiring against the Islamic Republic. His brother, Farjad Darvishi, was fatally shot by security forces in Oroumieh on September 20, 2022.
