Iran’s judiciary announced that Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German citizen who had been abducted and detained in Iran, was executed this morning on charges of “corruption on earth through planning and directing terrorist acts.”
Mr. Sharmahd was kidnapped by Iranian agents in Dubai during a trip to the United Arab Emirates in August 2020 and taken to Iran. His trial was overseen by Judge Abolqasem Salavati, known for issuing severe sentences against political prisoners.
Human rights organizations had repeatedly voiced concerns over the serious violations in Mr. Sharmahd’s case, citing the lack of a fair trial and the illegal nature of his abduction. His execution marks another instance of gross human rights violation by the Islamic Republic.
