Rana Kourkouri, sister of Mujahid Kourkouri, who was arrested by security forces on July 4, is still detained in Evin prison. There is no information available about the reasons for her arrest and charges against her. Her sister, Negar Kourkouri, announced that a very high bail amount has been set for her, but her family is unable to provide the bail. Her brother, Mujahid Kourkouri, whose death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court of Iran late last year and is currently imprisoned in Sheiban prison in Ahvaz, is the main defendant in the case involving shooting of protesters in Izeh on November 16, 2022 and the death of seven citizens, including Kian Pirfalak. Pirfalak family have dismissed this allegation and the families of other victims, such as Milad Saeedianjo, have declared that they have no complaints against him.

The Third Branch of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court, serving as the appellate branch reviewing Mujahid Kourkouri’s case, has issued a new death sentence for him. This decision comes after the Supreme Court had previously overturned the initial death sentence issued by a lower court and remanded the case for reconsideration. Mujahid Kourkouri, a resident of Izeh, was arrested on November 16, 2022, during nationwide protests, and he was accused of shooting at citizens, Kian Pirfalak. However, Pirfalak family has consistently testified that security forces were responsible for the shooting that killed Kian and have stated they hold no grievances against Mujahid Kourkouri.
